No idea about work Rawky, All I know is NZ needs nurses,  maybe not your line  Its an astonishingly beautiful place with wonderfullyy friendly people. Perhaps the booming tourist industry needs workers a.t.m.?

http://www.kiwiexperience.com/ is a hop-on hop-off backpacker bus tour - you can make it last as long or short as you like. You could always see what work is available in each place? You'd make good contacts and pick up info from the people you're travelling with, many of whom are working their way along too. I met IT workers and hairdressers who'd do a stint in a big city and start travelling again as funds allowed. Often people working in hostels etc are backpackers themselves.

Good luck, and definitely go for it.

We have family in NZ (Christchurch) and, as Roger said, it is a beautiful country.  They suffered quite a bit, though, following the earthquake(s) when Christchurch was all but flattened
