I gave up during the last series. I can't take to Capaldi as The Doctor.

I agree Yogi

Despite his undoubted qualities as an actor, I just don't think he is making an impact as the Doctor. To me it feels like he is struggling to find a distinct personality for the character.

To be fair to PC there have been so many personality variants for the Doctor that it must be getting harder to differentiate yourself from what has gone before.

Sometimes when I watch him I al;most feel I can hear his internal dialogue which goes something like this;

"Just one more series and I can bow out quietly" or "this is not the most inspiring script". You get the general idea of where I am going with this.

Personally I really wanted PC to be an outstanding Doctor as I have always liked his output as an actor.

Is this series of Doctor Who going to produce each story as a two parter, it seems this way at the moment and they also ran the first two as a feature length episode. Good for marketing on sell through? I seem to remember that back in the day they ran a story over more than one week. For some reason I can't recall if they did that with recent Doctors, although they did have special two parters.

Not 100% certain, but it's looking that way. I think I read somewhere that most of them are, but not all. The Radio Times did an episode list at the start of the series and if you pair up the episodes odd/even (i.e. episodes 1 & 2, 3 & 4, etc), each pair has the same director, and most pairs have the same writer (5 & 6 and 9 & 10 are the exceptions),

And no: AFAIK they haven't done this since the reboot. The last two episodes of a series are normally a two-parter, and I think they've started a series with a two-parter in the past, but nothing to this extent.

Since the reboot, they have done quite a few two-parters. The last two episodes of a series are normally a two-parter, and there have been some key double-episode stories mid-series (the two-parter "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead" which introduced River Song springs to mind). However I don't recall anything to this extent before...

Good spot Eugene.

I actually prefer a two episode story structure as it gives them time to develop the narrative and give the characters more depth (no pun intended given the subject matter of the current story).

I believe it's just the first four stories (8 episodes) that will be two-parters.

I think he's a really good Dr Who and has made the Clara character far more appealing.  They definitely work better together than Cole and the previous incarnation.  Having yet another assistant carrying an unrequited torch for the doctor was getting monotonous.

Yes, completely agree.

I really struggled with the last series of "Doctor Who", but I'm enjoying the new series and am slowly starting to warm to PC in the role.

I didn't expect to say this, but I'm also enjoying the humour, such as the references to Clara helping the Doctor with his, er, "social skills" (e.g.t e.g. the cards in Ep.3).

It's another two parter and the title of the second part is the opposite to the first. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark in Game of Thrones), who appeared in the season trailer, is in next week's.

Oh, now I'm really intrigued!    Thanks, El

It is intriguing. There has been speculation that Maisie Williams will become Doctor Who's next companion but it's thought unlikely as she may go into films in the States much as Carey Mulligan has. After Carey Mulligan appeared as Sally Sparrow in possibly the best ever Doctor Who episode (Blink), there was speculation that she might become a companion but that's very unlikely.

Oh, that gives me even more to ponder!   I might have made this up, but I THINK I read somewhere that this series ends without a new companion (not that that rules anybody out, of course)      I agree about 'Blink' - brilliant episode.

Kaffy,

If you had been another forum member I could have said you are Aimee Ponder.

Good episode last night.

Mire technology, not Timelord. The Doctor reprogrammed it, but the device was a battlefield medical kit from one of the Mire's helmets.

I feel like I'm going to be in a group of one with my comments, but I really did not like that episode, I just thought it was poor and the acting felt pretty average too. The expression that came to mind is "going through the motions".

I was really excited about that episode when I saw the previews as the robots looked good.

Hated the yoyo stuff and did not like the Doctor pretending to be Odin.

As a character I really did not care too much for the hybrid girl and if she lived or died.

Mostly I have been enjoying and quite positive as this series has progressed and I hope (for me) that it gets back on track.
