When I found out that I was pregnant with my son, we went to celebrate to a Chinese restaurant. I found the hair. not an evening I recall with relish.

Yes, that's how I do them too.  Never wash them as such, because as stated in the OP they absorb the water.

Same here. They go soggy if you wash them.
