We went out in the morning and in the summer got home about tea time........ but by the time my kids were born things had changed, and I was very cautious......

My mum always say's time's have changed but surely there was still the same danger's year's ago  saying that i do check if my daughter has got to her destination more than my parent's ever did but i put that down too mobile phone's

Exactly....but my main fear for my Grandson growing up is the violent knife culture...........it scares me, and I lived through Mods and Rockers violence on the beaches (Sounds funny but true), kids always fought, but .....

And yes I do let my son play out, the problem now he is 14 is trying to get him to go out.

Ive very very recently (this year) let my daughter play out the front of our house, like RIGHT INFRONT. shes 14   its just not safe, not just from dodgy adults but from other kids who pick on them.

I remember playing out all day, every day. Dinner was something i had to get called in for, then got down my neck as soon as possible so i could go back out again.  I lived in a place called islay for a while it was idyllic, i used to disappear all day, literally all day, back when it was getting dark. We would jump off cliffs into the sea and walk everywhere barefoot.  If my daughter even hinted at doing that now id go mental

Cos they got out and played rather than sitting in front of a games console or a pooter

My daughter just had her prom and the money that was spent on her and her friends was gob smacking and when i asked her the next day if she had a good time, she said, well it was ok but it could have been better

I do think it has a lot to do with MONEY, when I was a kid I had a best dress, so did my mates......other than that we never noticed or cared what we were wearing......we just had fun....

We did the same, when you was shouted in you asked for another 10 mins even though you'd been out for 12 hrs

We fell out over this and in the end i had nothing too do with her prom (made me very upset) but i gave the sum of £150 for a dress which i thought was fair and daughter knew i would have too save to achieve this but her auntie said she would pay for anything daughter wanted so daughter went with the auntie, it's keeping up with the jonesys nowadays IMO

I think I'm lucky where I live. Nothing much goes on, although danger exists everywhere. I let my children go to the shop for the first time on their own when they were 6 and 8. I was terrified for 20 minutes.

We did'nt have the media of today....and I feel glad that we did'nt, I had an idyllic carefree childhood..

Me too. My mum just went onto the back balcony in the evening and shouted my name, (including: it's tea time), she or any other parent never really worried about us. They should have, considering some of the things we got up to.

All i can rember from them day's is being sick once i got in from heat stroke  my mum used too make me wear these horrible hats, i used too take it off once i was out of view. my hair used too be white in those days
