I was giggling at my own fathers funeral. It's a nervous thing and I too got into endless trouble at school for it.

I put my hands up and say I was in stitches with Rodrigo last night ....just soooooooooooo funny. I really felt for him.

I'm still giggling as I'm typing this.

Me too ...................it's just a shame he doesn't laugh more. I have to admit that for a while I thought he had no sense of humour at all.

I went to see the new harry potter last week. When ...........ooh the 'sad' bit ( for those who haven't seen it) someone made a funny noise sounded like a stifled cry, I got the giggles so bad i couldn't breath, everytime i tried to calm down my friend would start up again untill we had tears running down our faces, then i thought people would think i was crying at the film which set me off again.

I used to get in trouble for doing it at school too ......... that was mainly cos i used to spend most lunchtimes getting stoned though.

It wasnt the fact he had a lisp it was just the tension and the silence

Although age does play a part I think an attack of the giggles at inappropriate moments can happen to anyone. It's kind of like a nervous reaction.

Yes, and it's much much worse when you're not supposed to.
I constantly got them at school in lessons, and quite frequently get them in church. Blush

Once when we had a stand in vicar cos ours was on holiday he was obviously in a hurry to get somewhere afterwards because he went through the service at breakneck speed, including nearly forcing the communion wine down our mouths.

I got the giggles so bad (my friend has such an infectious laugh) that I had to pretend I was coughing and blowing my nose. Surprised I haven't been excommunicated really. Wink

I did it yesterday at a funeral. My dear friends mum died and all our friends from childhood were there. At the wake a bunch of us were reminiscing about our teenage years, as one of the elderly family passed us, one of my friends said to her “Are you having a good time” Q hysterical laughter from all of us, we just could not stop, everyone was looking at us, the more they looked the more we laughed. I have never been jailed for it though. Big Grin

Laughter and tears are very closely connected in the brain and therefore can get mixed up from time to time.

My uncle is a doctor and when he has to give bad news to patients or their relatives he has to consciously stop himself from laughing and often feels like crying. He says they are very similar responses.

Now that's a dreadful position to be in. Close friends and family can sort of understand your response ..........complete strangers getting bad news is another thing altogether. Actually I'm giggling imagining it ..............that's really awful.

I laughed in the face of a teacher once. I went to an all girls school and was really quite a biddable wee soul - when not in the grip of this inability to stop laughing.
She actually enlisted the help of her husband who was on the teaching staff and he proceeded to shout in my face Eeker His face was furnished with a moustache which really didn't help my desperate attempt at seriousness. Every time I averted my eyes he would bellow, "loooook at me!" He was defeated by my inopportune hilarity.
They were both science teachers by the way - I concluded we just had no chemistry Ninja
