OK..the DIY is a misnomer because I have absolutely no intention of doing anything myself, but here's my dilemma...

I'm househunting.. I've seen a house I quite like.. EXCEPT.... it has ceramic tiling from the lounge right through to the kitchen.    In the kitchen -  fine.   In the lounge.. er.. hello.. this is Scotland!  Even in the height of summer I don't want cold tiles in my lounge.

So... they would have to be removed.   Who would do it?   A reverse tiler?  Joiner?  General building type person?   I wouldn't know what to approach to quote - AND.... how difficult/easy would it be to make some kind of cut so that the kitchen ones could remain (for now)?

OR.. is it feasible (as has been suggested to me) to somehow lay a carpet on top of them?  I know I'd need to take a bit off the doors and there might be a step into the kitchen - but I'd think the carpet might move through time?

Any ideas anyone?

cheers jen - I've just been googling... apparently it is possible (you get special glue to fix the tack strips)  but some people say you might see the grout lines eventually - but I'd guess the thickest underlay might help with that.

I think I'll drop into the local carpet place and have a natter.   (watch someone buying the house while i dither....!)

Yes you can providing there is no hidden damp lurking beneath your tiles.

I'll get back to you with more info later but in the meantime BUY, BUY, BUY.

That's presuming you like the property enough

But - the tiles may grow on you

 . . . unless you see a nice carpet

the tiles won't grow on me... they're nice tiles, but i'm a barefoot person and I like cosy carpet in the lounge.    Looks like my online friends have solved the problem though.
