He was pointing out the meagre amount that people have to live on. "pocket money" has been jumped upon by those who would rather believe he meant it differently. I agree with everything you`ve said OHG apart from what I`ve bolded. I had a boyfriend (yonks ago) who had rich parents and they didn`t give him a penny. He lived in the Uni halls, wore raggedy jumpers and sandshoes. Chips and curry sauce was a treat for us. They made him make his own way and I admired them for it.
