I GOT THIS EMAIL I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE AS IT IS PRETTY IMPORTANT

Hi all,

You may already have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access your numbers. It's easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex-directory.

You may want to suggest it to all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the BBC - see link below.

To remove your number click on the link below, you need your mobile phone with you to do this as they text you a code

1 http://www.118800.co.uk/ (not working at moment - trying to get alternative number)

2 Click on 'Ex Directory' at top right hand side of page, from
there it's straight forward.

PLEASE KEEP BUMPED SO THAT OTHERS CAN READ IT

It's all shite. Connectivity aren't intending to give out your number, they will act as a router and ring first to see whether you will accept the routed call. The caller never gets the number.

Connectivity haven't got everyone's number from all the service providers. O2, for example, have refused their request.

Registering with Connectivity for removal is effectively handing over your details to the company anyway. Which is ironic when they probably didn't have them in the first place. What they might do with that list is interesting in itself.

The viroid email may well be drumming up telephony charges deliberately or might simply be to cause a panic for someone's personal masturbatory purposes.

If anyone wants to see their FAQ then search google for 118800 and the second indented link in the result points to it. As their web service is down at the time of writing, clicking the Cached link under the text in the Google result will show you the page. As it says there:

"If you don’t give out numbers, how does 118800 put me in touch with the person I want to contact?

When you search on 118800.co.uk, we’ll send an SMS message to the person you’re seeking giving them your contact details so they can call you back.

When you call us on 118800, we’ll try to connect you to the person you’re looking for. If we can’t connect you, you can choose to have us leave a voicemail or send a SMS message with your contact details.

Why can’t I have the number, rather than being put in touch?

Some people don’t like the idea of their mobile number being given out to anyone who asks. So having worked closely with the regulatory authorities to provide a service that protects this right but also provides a successful directory service, we have developed simple ways of connecting you without ever giving out a mobile number."

Which is clearly contrary to what the email text the OP posted which says: "You may already have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access your numbers." using the normal interpretation of 'access your numbers'.

have you clicked on the link before calling me a liar?!

I haven't called you a liar. You need to learn to read for comprehension, I think.

Think about it.
On the scale of sim card use it would be impossible to make a directory. In spite of Danjay not knowing much about Karlo, he is fit, an expert on this sort of thing ,and his knowledge of the car wash is sans pareil.
