Serves me right for not conforming with popular forum opinion.

Your not alone, there's plenty of people who agree with you, when my Mum was alive she was known as 'The Duchess' and I wouldn't have dreamed of using an expletive in front of her or my Father, let alone on a tv program in front of millions, its called respect.

In your family, yes, because that's the way your Mum was and that's fine. That doesn't mean that being different is necessarily disrespectful.

I hate to judge their relationship, but from what Marcus has said to others in the house, it sounded like he had no one growing up and barely spoke to his mum now (his brother doesn't speak to her at all), despite her having a room in his house. He has often spoken like this about her, or implied that he had no family relationships at all.

Other FMs have said that they've read that he was in care for most of his childhood.

Now, we are meant to believe that they have a close, loving relationship, with wonderful banter, and that he looks after his dear old mother in her dotage, despite the fact that he was packing a suitcase and skipping off for over three months, without telling her where he was going! Laugh

Tis very confusing! Glance

It must be if you've heard all that and read the stories, Bliz. I've not so I can't judge - or even know if the stories were true or not. What I did see was his Mum telling the story of him bumping his case down the stairs and saying 'Maybe' to all her questions and she didn't seem up nor down about it. Agreeing to go on the show doesn't seem to fit with the image of a shunned parent either. I'm just commenting on the bits I see and my own family's pretty warped sense of humour. I suppose we'll never know the truth about their relationship.

Edit to add - I thought it was refreshing that here was a housemate who was actually doing what they're supposed to and NOT telling anyone (much less putting it on their FB/web page as Karly did) that they were going in the house! I think his Mum's a 'game old bird' for want of a better word and as Darth said yesterday I sort of imagine them rubbing along together like a latter day (mrs) Steptoe and Son.

I haven't read the stories, but I have heard Marcus talk about not being close to her and 'having no one' on the outside.

It just doesn't fit with this loving relationship we are now being told must exist! Big Grin

Hmm... I suppose it depends if he was telling the truth really. I don't think he really thinks she a lazy old barsteward mingebag you see. I want to find out now!

I am really struggling to understand your point KB when you refer to disrespect, I can see that banter in a family or outside of it is ok i.e asking your Nan to sit out in a thunderstorm as its just a joke but how the hell is effing and blinding at your Mother ever going to be acceptable.

Surely if its socially unacceptable to swear at your bank manager or employer then doing it whilst referring to one of your own parents is nothing short of disgraceful and if that makes me 'high and mighty' then I'm pleased it does.

Sorry - I don't get your point either Canicant? "Effing and Blinding at your parents - or anyone - seriously and in anger is obviously wrong and disrespectful. You've said yourself bantering in or out of a family is ok. I suppose my point is jokingly 'effing and blinding' is just banter to some people. Obviously not to you and yours and that's fine - everyone is different (I've never called anyone high and mighty btw and likewise, because my family enjoys a bit of name calling in sport I resent the implication that I don't/didn't love and respect my parents. I just happen to see Marcus's comments as being more like mine than yours.

Did anyone of that make sense? Laugh

I'm not pillorying (???) anyone, just saying I'm not shocked by it, but I 'get' Marcus (I think) I think I'm just unshockable. Apart from Sophie's Mum and the casual sex comment. See.. I can be a prude too! Angel

@KB

1st sorry if you thought I was saying that you started the 'high and mighty' comment (it wasn't) and I never said that my opinion meant you didn't love your parents.

The problem arises when people seem to follow the accepted ways in life and then get annoyed when another person shows their dislike.

For instance I wonder when the last time was when Marcus went to the dentist and said joking 'now don't effing pull the wrong one out or I'll twat you, you mingebag' and if he does then I would be very surprised as it is obviously done for show for other peoples benefit.

He is no way being real in there its just as much an act as the rest of them.

I'm not getting annoyed, just stating my point of view - as are you. That's what it's all about eh? Mostly (like now) it's all about pointless stuff, but sometimes differing opinions being aired make you stop and think about the big stuff Hug

As to the dentist thing... to me that's just an example of his sense of humour (imo) My ex also used to tell people he grabbed the dentist's bits and said 'now we're not going to hurt each other are we?' Surely jokes like that, either on telly, or in RL are supposed to be for the entertainment of others?

Anyway - we're not going to agree on Marcus, but we're not going to fall out over him either, are we? Hug

Not you, but others have and I think it's sad that things are getting a bit personal, tbh. Glance

He wants to shock and he has shocked people, basically. Some of his supporters should accept that.

I see it like this - I love programmes like South Park, with a character like Cartman, who comes out with some truly disgusting and shocking statements. I laugh, because it is shocking and I'm not agreeing with what he says, I'm laughing at him, not with him.

He's not real and his victims aren't real.

When Cartman becomes real, then it's not funny anymore, if you see what I mean! Glance Big Grin

I do see what you mean, I've just not seen him do or say any of those things you think are mean and think that he means them seriously. Maybe he mis-judges and oversteps the mark.. or maybe I need to watch more! I don't believe in getting personal about it though. Now bugger off! Big Grin Valentine

If he can say such a horrible thing about his own mother then it's hardly suprising that he's been so disrespectful to all the female housemates. :-/

I was so shocked I was full sure he was referring to BB for bringing her on the programme. Seeing this and watching it again I see he is referring to his mother.

He really is a nasty character. Some people on this thread seem to think you can say what you like if it's meant as a joke. Well I and all my family would never use such disgusting words about someone we love and respect.
Words are an expression of how we feel and those disgusting words should not come to mind when talking about your mother.

Different values for different people I think. I guess people like you and I are tarred with labels like "high and mighty" and "above others" for daring to think that such a barrage of obscenity directed at your own mother is unacceptable.

As for it being friendly banter, as some have suggested, well OK I can sort of see that point, although I still maintain that such a brand on humour should be reserved for the privacy of your own home, rather than on national television.

I think Blizzie summed it up perfectly when she said that Marcus likes to shock people by what he says and does. The trouble is, that some people on here seem to take exception at voicing your shock, even though that is clearly, by his own admission, what he tries to do.

He probably asked her to move in to look after his cat because he was going away on holiday or something, and just told her he was going into the BB house as he was leaving. They were told in past years not to mention to anyone about going into the house until the last minute. I don't know if things have changed this year?

She has a room in his house and a house or flat in Bournemouth.

She says that he didn't tell her anything, just said "Maybe", when she asked if he was going on holiday, as he dragged his suitcase down the stairs.

She didn't know where he was until she was in Bournemouth watching TV and saw him on there.
