I don't know if this is a personal feeling with what is happening in my families life at the moment; but it REALLY pisses me off when people say they are 'devastated' over the fact that Beckham will miss out on the World Cup because he stubbed his toe (or whatever he actually did).

The media jump on this and will most likely have a eulogy of his foot on the front pages tomorrow!!! ARRRGH!!! Its just a bloody game and its not the end of the world, plus its not like England would win anyway, despite the amount of crap songs that get released before the World Cup singing about how 'great' we are.

Rant over.

I was looking forward to a swansong of some sort. Twenty minutes here, ten minutes there. I'm just a footie fan and couldn't give a shite what the scratter media say. They can stick their armchair fans and their flags.
Once again, although it's Spain's World Cup to lose, I'm looking forward to another great competition. If England can get through to the last eight, or even the last four, they will have done OK. But once again, like last time, anyone of a few can win. As long as it's a local team I don't care.

I'm GUTTED he wont be there. It will probably be his last WC, and it just doesn't seem right that he wont be involved. Regardless of how he has been playing lately, he still has moments of genius and (for me) his presence on the pitch would have inspired the fans and the rest of the team.

Unfortunately, Rooney is now being hailed as our WC saviour, it's being put upoin his shoulders quite heavily to bring the cup home. I hate it when the media do this to one person (similar to the slating of Beckham when he was red-carded). They are a TEAM ffs. ALL have a responsibility to do their job and all should be prepared and adequately trained to lose a man during a match and still play to the best of their ability. I detest the way the responsibility of winning or losing a team game is placed on one person's head.

Bloody hell Karma! You took the words right outta my mouth.

I'm absolutely devastated (i dont care what op thinks about that word) that he's not going. Becks was the player I grew up idolising and looking up to, he has been such a great role model for kids the way he strives to achieve things, proves his doubters wrong (so many times), works hard and NEVER gives up. He's worked so hard to get back into the England setup after being injustifiably dropped by Steve McClown. He's came on loan to AC Milan to put himself into top level football to prove himself to Capello because he was desperate to play at this World Cup and still he is the best player for that position by an absolute mile. It's gutting that he's got this injury.
You'd probably say he's now played his last game for England, but with Beckham you never know. How many times have we said this before? I know the odds are against him coming back next season for England, but with Beckham it just wouldn't surprise me if he's part of the Euro 2012 qualification campaign that will start in September this year.

It a shame for him and I think he would have done well by coming on as a sub but in the great scheme of things there are worse things that happen of course.
Of course there are far worse things that can happen but ..........i agree - it's very sad the DB wont make it to the World Cup finals .........he is renowned world wide and a feather in the cap for the England side even though it would have been as sub. He still had a lot to offer - I think he lifts the spirit of the team in general. Shame

Reference: I hate footballers and their game - so he can go for a run and jump (taking his wife btw) _ I just wish the money they were paid was paid to nurses, doctors, researchers etc who save lives. My sentiments exactly.
