However.... I did learn to never ever assume anything when I worked in the NHS!
I did a 4 year stint 2002-2006 (on secondment,) working with the most senior civil servants in one particular government department
So does Gordy
I've had to deal with Whitehall Mandarins too......'Yes Prime/Minister' is not a comedy!

What gets me Suzy is how they move the career civil servants around from one area to another, hence they often know little about the area they are working in...bit like the cabinet reshuffles.
so do i soozy........it doesn't stop me eating it......it's like a diet food cos it's not in me tum long enough to turn into fat!

That may only be for a couple of days .........who knows what's gonna pan out - anything can and probably will happen. There is little point uprooting everything until decisions have been reached.

To be fair soops, it's not that difficult to get up to speed in particular areas, and the business of Government is the same wherever you go. Many of them are extremly skilled at the policies and practices.

got to disagree with that a wee bit Scotty.. there are many policy differences in my opinion! In a British context, the Labour Party were responsible for implementing charges for education.. something even Thatcher (!) didn't go as far as.The stance on the nuclear issue is a biggy, with the Labour party firmly to the right of the SNP on that one, In the Scottish Parliament, the Labour group was opposed to lowering and scrapping prescription charges; condoned and allowed the introduction of parking charges at hospitals, and promoted the growth of managerialism and contract culture in the health services and other public services. Not even vaguely socialist
I did say "not that many" Slinki but now you`ve pointed out the above me, I admit I got that wrong. My point really was that the SNP are socialists, like Scottish Labour used to be. There was some common ground but it`s drifted, I believe, through SL`s control from London. I don`t believe that SL, if given the freedom, would agree to most policies (nuclear being an exception) directed from London HQ. They`re being untrue to their beliefs because of it. They`re not free..they`re controlled. The SNP are not. I want that for Scotland and Wales and any other country that is overpowered by a centre that has no real interest in it`s future other than monetary gain.Reference:

No one is going to prop up the Brown regieme. Whatever negotiation occurs over the next few days, one thing is certain, there will be some version of a Cameron Government. Either as a minority government or coalitioned with Lib Dem. We will not be suffering 5 more years of Gordon Brown. He was crushed by the electorate. Lost 100 seats. The worst Labour defeat since 1930's. Sulking in number 10 will not change this.Reference:
given the face on your mug I do understand why
I just didn't want to search through lots of normal pics of him..... I can't be doing with another abnormal crush!

I think you are clearly misjudging him .............he really is not sulking. He is staying on (as is his duty) to hold the fort until a new government (under whatever guise) is formed. I really dont understand how you dont see this.Reference:

That is VERY interesting! You can see why we have a hung parliament. The country is truly split down the middle on all this.

You may be right Spider, but, imo it's far from certain, and it would be crazy to do anything different until it's sorted. I don't think that GB is 'sulking' or being 'pathetic'...he's just doing what he needs to do and what the system dictates

How the hell can you be so certain about your own assumptions? I think we are all agreed that we are sharing opinions. I am of the opinion that the way you word things invalidates your side of the argument.Phrases like "I really dont understand how you dont see this.".....is a petulant way to take a position. If I offend you, so be it.

Exactly Ducky, which is why GB has to stay where he is until it's sorted, (and so he can lift the light bulbs, tamper with the washing machine etc.)Out of interest, does anyone know of anyone who tactically voted Tory or Lib Dem to keep Labour out? I know of loads of people who did it the other way around, but maybe that's just the company I keep!
