What is bell boating ?
It's sort of like a big 'raft', but is actually a boat, with rows of rowers (!) on either side - it's pretty secure (i.e. it's almost impossible to capsize) and fun

It is - we're very lucky to have the river very near (but low down, so it can't reach us when it floods
) and over the playing field.
