Evening Darnies

Just had the fright of my life! I had just fed Pops, then she went out in the garden and next doors dogs started barking at her. Her eyesight is very bad, so I don't think she realised they were behind a fence and she was safe. Anyway, she had some sort of seizure!! She couldn't walk at all for a while, and when she was able to get up she was dragging herself round in circles (she couldn't use her back legs) and her head was all shaky and weird. It only lasted about 2 minutes but I genuinely thought she was about to die on me!  She couldn't settle for a while afterwards, she was making funny noises and then she was sick. She's ok now though.

I think it may have been a sudden drop in blood sugar brought on by fear, and luckily, as she had JUST eaten, it went as quickly as it came on. I hope that's what it was anyway.  I could be talking complete and utter rubbish! The dipstick thing I'm supposed to be doing is constantly showing her to have high blood sugar, so...

I'm watching her VERY carefully....and the slightest sign that she's not ok I shall be ringing the out of hours vet. If not, I'll take her in the morning anyway, just to get her checked out. I need to talk to him about her diabetes anyway. I'm assuming the constant high blood sugar readings mean she needs her insulin adjusting.

Having a dog is stressful

But it's your pet.  It's extortion but you're like me. I used to do anything for my pets healthwise.

We had an early start to half term this time.

If it helps, things are going to be a bit of a nightmare soon. Our Head has resigned, he leaves at Easter. So we have 5 weeks to try and put some sort of plan in place. My work load is about to get even more crazy than normal.

I'm gonna make the most of this week off.

They're very good. They don't make me feel guilty for interrupting their evening It is costing me a fortune though! She's had 5 over night stays at the vet since she's been with me (about a month)...... ÂĢ400 for the privilege.

Luckily my mum qualifies for help from the PDSA (it's my mum's dog), so any treatment she has during the day is free (aside from a donation), and the vet has been very good at letting me still use the certificate, even though she's staying with me at the moment. It's just the overnight stays that I have to pay for.
