I think hoarders must suffer a bit like OCD people do, maybe they compulsively have to keep things?

I still have boxes from mobile phones I had years ago

My godmother cleared out an elderly mans flat last year- he was a hoarder. He knew what state his home had gotten in to but he just didn't know how to/couldn't let himself clear it out.
She did it when he was in hospital for a long stretch and it took an army of volunteers 3 weeks. He was delighted when he came home

My niece used to to take her sons old toys to the school jumble sales and he used to go down and buy them back
