Yes.... and she didn't give up even though she stumbled.....

Why isn't she popular with the public?

Maybe because she's not a 'celeb' and not really well known.

Something strange , (to me, ) about her not being 'girlie/feminine/petite'....I think she's gorgeous!

Because skiers aren't really well known.

Plonker.

I think he's just upset with himself for messing up when he knew he could do it. It's not like he flounced off the ice or anything

I agree ......................TBH - he has all the skills - he's better than a lot left behind. He was cross with himself!

Soozy Woo

Just got to come here and have a brief rant. I don't post while the show is on, as you know. But I'm so upset for Sebastien. He was the most daring skater of them all. His routine on the main show was the most difficult of all of them as a result. He was badly served by the choreography.

And I won't even start on the colour issue here. He shouldn't have been in the last 3.  Let's just blame in on the fact he's French, eh?   Yes, he screwed up the skate-off and it was a no-brainer he would have to go. But why was he in the final 3? Andy was shockingly bad, Sam very little better. Your thoughts would help me out of this rage!

Xochi

Personally I have never liked his skating, I find him clumsy, heavy and awkward.  I dont think he dances on ice, He comes across as flinging himself around on ice.  So for me, I am quite happy to see him go.  His colour or even his nationality dont come into it.

Its personal preference, but to me he was as far away from what a figure skater should be as kirk. Kirk is fumbly and slow and Sebastian was heavy and cumbersome.

Oh dear Xochi, I'm not sure if we can help you calm down, as I think most of us agree that Andy should have been in the bottom three.

If he had been I think that Chemmy would not have been and I think that if the bottom three had been Andy, Sebastien and Heidi, we would have been expecting Andy and Heidi to go, but if under those circumstances, Sebastien had still lost it, then I think we would have ended up losing Sebastien and Heidi.

So in the end there's a good chance that the result then would have left us with the same seven as we have now.

I'm largely with you Xochi

However, I think that the main reason he was in the bottom three was 'cos people didn't take to him, on account that he came across as overly confident/arrogant. Me, I thought he was great, (and gorgejuice!)

FM

I am just watching on +1........I don't think he should have been in the bottom three in the first place, but he wasn't very good tonight in the main show, but there were worse....Andy eg.

However....he totally lost it in the dance off and in the end, there is something of a popularity contest and Andy is popular it seems. Sebastien comes across as very cocky and that does him no favours either.

Can't help but love Andy tbh, he comes across as a real cutie. Think people don't generally 'take to' those who are v competitive, and Seb' was certainly that...half the job on these things is to endear oneself with the public, and he didn't do well on that score

OK Sooz. But I have watched a lot of these sorts of programmes and have noticed how often this happens. I'm interested to know what you mean by 'French arrogance'. How is that in any way different to simple arrogance?  He has clearly been shown to be a very driven man who I think was his own worst enemy by demanding so much of himself.

But you don't address my real problem here. Why was he in the last 3 when he had one of the hardest routines and was marked well enough by the judges? On what basis then was he in that position?

Xochi.. I'm surprised at you bringing up the colour issue  - I doubt very much it crossed anyone's mind.      I didn't like his arrogance.. and to say he was badly served by the choreography is way off beam considering he seemed to want to tell the professionals what to put in the routine - so that he could show off more imo - like the split jump last week that he just didn't pull off.       He was all for himself - his partner was a mere hindrance that he had to spend some time with - he wanted to be out there doing his tricks on ice.  Impressive skills but not 'ice dancing' imo.     don't care what colour he is.. I said much the same about Chris Fountain and last time I looked he was white.

Yeah! I meant to post that as part of my comment! Who is he?! Who is he?!

But as regards Sebastien, I reckon if you ask anyone under 25 who likes extreme sports they will know about him. Even me, at my extreme age appreciate his skills.

Xochi ..........................I have many French friends - I have had loads of French kids stay the Summer at my house. I have been in a twinning association for 18 years and (one year they visit here /the next we visit there). Perhaps arrogance is the wrong word (in fact I know it is) French kids exude confidence - it is actively encouraged which is great ...............i think us Brits try not to make our kids big headed - we try to instil modesty. Sebastian didn't offend me at all but i think many see self belief and confidence as arrogance. I guess we're culturally different that way. I really don't see colour as an issue though TBH.

Well ..........................I'm one of the 'common' people. I know Sam from X Factor (or Pop Idol one of those) - I also watch kids TV with my grand sons and ......................I think he might be better known than a French free runner TBH.

Honestly Zochi,  I don't think it has a single thing to do with his nationality/skin colour, think he just didn't come across as 'likeable' to most as he was v single minded and determined to do 'his thing,' didn't fit the 'traditional' mould  and wasn't really a 'pair' skater. Maybe if it had been singles skating it would have been different, something new and fresh?  However, whilst I missed the skate off, understand he screwed up big style when he was on his own?

Thank you Sooz, that was well explained and argued.

All I'm trying to suggest is that there is a colour issue in so many programmes of this ilk. And yeah, in this instance, I buy the cultural difference argument, but only very loosely!

Xochi

This business of being well known is a thorn.  We get it everytime in reality shows but being high profile or in a high ratings show (or whatever) does help when it comes to voting.

It's all about fanbase, isn't it..?

I actually think that DOI is the one show that has half a chance of keeping IN the better talent.  Then again, when it gets to this stage in the series, you get the likes of Andy getting through on popularity rather than possible merit.

Seb ballsed it up when it mattered.  The judges vote on the evidence given at the time of the dance off.

And a lot of what Kaffers said is true; he really wasn't listening to constructive direction otherwise he wouldn't have attempted that wobbly Russian last week.

All I'm suggesting that it could be an element in the minds of the Great Voting Public! I will rattle this particular cage here in all the programmes like this btw. Be warned!

Does no one remember Sam (and Mark) from Pop Idol? They both did quite well (but obviously didn't win) - they teamed up as a double act and released one single (I think) they have since become kids TV presenters (the poor mans Ant and Dec) and will (I believe) have quite a following from the kids. Certainly more so than Sebastian .................I love the free running stuff and all that but I never knew who he was and ...........surely Sam has gotta be more well known in this country and .....................let's be honest - Sebastian cocked up tonight. In the skate off it's all abou8t the one off performance!

And that's the point, Soozy - fanbase/well known.

One man's high profile is another's obscurity.

If I don't know who a 'celeb' is it doesn't mean that they're not well known.

(Although I think that last point may not hold up so well as it did 'back in the day' so to speak )
