Not even sure I get the question either

Knitting pattern barely grasped, a stretch when spinning

If you take the 6 letters I've put in bold, then spin them around in reverse order, you get ARGYLE., but I don't think the clue is very good as why the reference to stretch. I would have thought this was a bit better:

Knitting pattern barely grasped when part has to be unravelled.

El Loro

ah right cheers El Loro..

So basically the answer has absolutely nowt to do with the question, not even cryptically, except it's in the line up of letters, well backwardly in the line up of letters..  and the two words it encompasses have nowt to do with the 'clue' either..  what a daft crossword..

Ok I know Argyle is a style of jumper pattern so is remotely attached to knitting. .ah maybe that's where the stretching it thing comes in as in am stretching the credibility of this clue a bit to fit the word I want.. and spinning refers to it being reversed .

yay I am turning into a  clever clogs.. well maybe a little

because ARGYLE is a stretch(or run) of letters within 'barely grasped'

T*R*I** looks like one word. TAR DIED is two. Is the clue asking for two words or one 7 letter word?

If it`s one word, could it be TARRIED?
