Is the first word miss,Joe, as in avoid
Ta! I'll have another look later. I couldn't get East and West out of my head.
No idea Jer, any others you need help with?
Are all the letters you've given us right?
Miss Blandish
No Orchids for Miss Blandish is a novel
Miss (as sprout said) then Bish = mistake... land for country hence B land ish
Z.
Ooh well done Zaph!! I'm well impressed. Like Jer, I was doing the whole East and West thing.

Vair funny.
If you imagine that as being 1d then 1a is...... Confusion over allocations of sides: "You weather, ______"? (5)
**L*E
Key to crime and cover up? (5) **A*E
Still one myth of the mountains (4) *E*I
Melee for the first one?
And the myth of the mountains is Yeti
That last one is YETI ... but you knew that
Z.
Ta Zaphod!
Means it's now......
M*L*E
D*A*E
And DRAPE for the middle one
Z.
Melee and Yeti yes! But why??
You weather me lee??
Yeti is a myth but why mountains?
Yet for still before I for one and Yeti is a mythical creature of the Himalayas
Z.
Zaphod is obviously John Graham in disguise.
the only thing I have for explaining melee so far is that a lee is the sheltered side away from the weather, out of the wind
Z.
Thanks for your help Sprout, Veggie, and Zaphod!
Should I win another copy of Clue to our lives you can share it!
No need when Zaph already has
Goes back to sleep

Yeti is a myth but why mountains?
Yeti + mountain man, but is supposed to be only a myth
A melee can be a fight or just a crowd with no direction - hence the confusion - everyone just milling about aimlessly.
Also the leeward side.
Confusion over Allocation of sides - You(the)weather(side, or windward), ME (the) LEE (side, or leeward)
ME+LEE = melee/confusion
Anyway I thank you, but should have pointed out that those were the last clues and it's in the post.

Oh, I know it's in the past, but it seemed that a bit of explanation was still wanted. I wasn't intending to pretend that I was giving you the answers, just a bit more on the explanation/clarification side.
*Bumps for later for Joe*
19 is DRYAD (A dry ad)
6 may be ANCHOR. The ancho would be the first part of anchovies and the r stands for right, but the clue would be better as a bit of fish rather than a lot.
5 is a toughie, the answer is OVOLO. An ovolo is a type of moulding in architecture.Volo is the Italian for flight. Pursuing round - the round is O, volo pursues O meaning that O comes before volo.
Cor I wouldn't have got any of those.
*wanders off feeling really fick*
I couldn't get 'em either.
Once again a tip of the hat to El Loro. Thanks!
I saw this too late last night.
Dryad leaped out at me right away, I could see the reasoning (as given by El Loro) for Ovolo, but couldnt think of the word, but the fishy one made no sense at that time of night.
Does anyone on here tackle the 'Private Eye' crossword?
No Avalon, is it really difficult?
No Avalon, is it really difficult?
Hi, Veggie. It can be quite difficult (and also quite rude, too!)
Avalon xx
Ooh, I haven't read the Eye for ages. Actually I never really buy any papers or mags these days.
I do love a fiendish crossword although I am proper cack at them

Me too, Veggie. In tackling the Eye crossword I think that you have to have read the magazine in order to know, for instance, that 'Brenda' in a clue refers to the Queen.
Does anyone on here tackle the 'Private Eye' crossword?
In reality I don't tackle crosswords generally because I find them boring. I am more into logic-type puzzles.
