He has resigned at last. Well done to the peeps who wouldn't let this story go! Massive miscalculation and poor decision making by Cameron and Osbourne! Is this the begining of the end? Bog! I hope so!

He knows it`s going to all come out in the wash.
He jumped before he was pushed!

What a muppet... held it til friday hoping that the Blair inquiry would drown out the story of him leaving. Looks like its backfired, the conservatives deserve everything they get

Good riddance! Now for the rest of them...
Hooray! Good riddance..Osborne on the TV just now crowing about him,patriotic etc...scumbags the lot of them.
More liklely because various folk are suing him and the News of the world.
Gazza brings down Cameron's communications team....
Tommy Sheridan will be no doubt be behind bars on Wednesday but I think this might help to put a wee smile on his face.
Brilliant news - how did he and Cameron ever think his position was salvable?
If he didn't know about the phone-tapping, he's an incompetent fool who shouldn't be trusted to edit the local church newsletter, never mind a national tabloid. Or to run the Tory press machine.
If he did know, he's a liar and a crook who ought to be in jail.

fancy some jokes? reprinted from twitter
Coulson resigns "to spend more time listening to other people's families".

Show your appreciation for Andy Coulson. Leave him a message of a support on your voicemail.
@davidschneider
Coulson first learned of his resignation when listening to David Cameron's voicemail.
@bristolpaul
Why did Andy Coulson resign? Because he couldn't hack it any more.

Hope this case gets blown wide open
I've always found it very difficult to the believe that the editor of the NOTW did not know the origin of so many exclusives published in the paper. Surely he asked questions as to the origin and the reliability of the stories.

Very interesting erinp. It is stuff like that which makes me dubious about Andy Coulsons repeated claims that he knew nothing about the phone hacking. As editor wouldn't he be curious where all these amazing paper selling exclusives were coming from?

He had to know imo,he now knows this story will not go away,he had to "Edit" himself out of office.
Exactly. Allegedly.
Phone hacking documentary on C4 now.
Thanks SB

Have to laugh at Max Clifford who took a ÂĢ1million payout from them but never exposed, as far as I know, what News International actually did.
Sorry, watching further, I was wrong about Max.

Interesting the lack of coverage of Coulson's departure.
Peirs Morgan was allegedly caught announcing to his team that Paul McCartney had sung "And I love her" after a row between Paul and Heather. Peirs said "It's the message he sang to Heather to make it up - you should hear the tape"

I wonder how we'd feel if they actually (illegally) taped someone of real importance conspiring in something properly drastic like a war crime or summat as opposed to the celeb dross it seemed to be. Would the ends justify the means then?

Absolutely, covered only by the Guardian and Bee Keeping Made Easy.Reference: Antiope

I have never been convinced of Andy Coulsons innocence in this.Reference Smarting Buttocks Today at 20:48:

I remain continually amazed at how Moron has stayed out of jail for so long. How he managed to come out of the Mirror's "fill your boots" shares scandal relatively unscathed is beyond me...Reference:Eugene's Lair

He dodged that bullet because the CPS could not find enough evidence against him. But they found enough for his two associates.

I've been surprised by this too, He lives almost directly opposite me, and there have been loads of reporters and photographers camped outside on and off for the last couple of weeks, but there hasn't been nearly as much coverage as I would have expected.
