Son has just suggested something that triggered my memory of the same thing happening to my friends laptop.
Her problem was caused by her new mouse (as opposed to a cat lol). some of the new mice have disability buttons on the side and they will make text really large if you press them by accident.
If you think that might be happening to you Cologne try referring to your mouse manual or son said to ask what version of windows you have as fixes are different for different versions - I think

Cologne, what browser are you using?
Not that that is likely to make a great deal of difference as I don't know where all the different settings are in all the different browsers or the different names they may have,
However, as an accessibility function many browsers have a feature which can be switched on that will automatically start-up the browser in a very big resolution. It sounds as though this function may somehow have got 'switched on in yours.
Can you check what your resolution is?

Fluffy and veggie, you make the most sense, but I'm not so good with the technical side of things, yes it is a fairly new mouse and I'm using Explorer 8. The mouse seems to have a live of its own and zooms off to the right or left top of the screen, but I can cope with that. It's the size which bothers me because it interferes with all my games as well as this place and banking and talk talk etc, etc.

Son also uses explorer 8 He says go to Tools menu and select Internet options, go to advanced and scrolling down there are three tick boxes under accessability which say
Reset text size to medium for new windows and tabs

Reset text size to medium while zooming
Reset zoom level for new windows.
He said to check that only the middle one is ticked  and then click apply and to see if that helps.
You may have to close IE and then reopen it.
