For the last few days the screen is huge when I go online. I can see the google emblem and practically nothing else. A few days ago, I did a System Restore and it came back normal size, now it's doing it again. Changing the size in settings makes no difference. Help please.

Try F11 Cologne, that sometimes happens with me....I've pressed a wrong button somewhere
That sounds a good possibility, Pam.. I think a few cat owners have suffered that problem when careless moggy strolls across the keyboard

So what does F11 do?

It should re-set it Ducky
Sorry, I'm having to make Mr Fluffy Thing's dinner. Sounds as though it might be more than just an 'F11' though as Cologne said she did a system restore but the size has gone huge again.
Unless the same cat has trodden on exactly the same keys again.

I don't have a cat - yet.
Hmmm .. no cat? ... Can't be that then.. is it just when you use your browser?

Have you checked your zoom level?....

Son has just suggested something that triggered my memory of the same thing happening to my friends laptop.
Her problem was caused by her new mouse (as opposed to a cat lol). some of the new mice have disability buttons on the side and they will make text really large if you press them by accident.
If you think that might be happening to you Cologne try referring to your mouse manual or son said to ask what version of windows you have as fixes are different for different versions - I think

Cologne, what browser are you using?
Not that that is likely to make a great deal of difference as I don't know where all the different settings are in all the different browsers or the different names they may have,
However, as an accessibility function many browsers have a feature which can be switched on that will automatically start-up the browser in a very big resolution. It sounds as though this function may somehow have got 'switched on in yours.
Can you check what your resolution is?

Fluffy and veggie, you make the most sense, but I'm not so good with the technical side of things, yes it is a fairly new mouse and I'm using Explorer 8. The mouse seems to have a live of its own and zooms off to the right or left top of the screen, but I can cope with that. It's the size which bothers me because it interferes with all my games as well as this place and banking and talk talk etc, etc.

Son is having a look round for you. Do you know the make and model of your mouse?
I've just gone and checked my resolution and its 668 X 501. I'm advised to slide the slidy thing in settings, but it just jumps to eiher the middle or the end, I have no control other than really big or really small and, anyway, it makes no difference to the internet site size.

I've had a look at it, but I can't make anything out veggie. It came with the second hand computer I bought from ebay last year.

Son also uses explorer 8 He says go to Tools menu and select Internet options, go to advanced and scrolling down there are three tick boxes under accessability which say
Reset text size to medium for new windows and tabs
Reset text size to medium while zooming
Reset zoom level for new windows.
He said to check that only the middle one is ticked and then click apply and to see if that helps.
You may have to close IE and then reopen it.

Doesn't sound like it's the mouse then as you would have encountered this problem before I would have thought.
Gawd I hate it when my pute goes wrong - I can only sympathise and hope someone with more gumption can help you

Veggie, I've done what your son advised, so I have to turn the computer off and see if it changed things.
It's a bit smaller now. Thanks veggie and son.
Check the bottom of IE, bottom right, does it say 100%? If it's higher, reduce to 100%.
Hi Veggie, those instructions your son gave are basically what I was meaning. I just didn't know the ins and outs to be more specific at that point.
This is a link to Wikihow article on the Zoom function in IE - it says the much the same as Veggie's and Spider's advice
If its just your internet browser then possibly try View - Zoom - Zoom in/out/reset
If its your whole desktop aswell as the internet aswell than control panel - personalization - display settings, then play around with the bar to get the right size
