Every time I crank up my pc and the hotmail messenger is installed, I get an instant message from somebody called Gabby, calling me Hi babes, darling, etc. I have no idea who this person is, I never reply and just click it off. In the beginning I was worried that it might be a virus, but it hasn't changed anything to my pc and/or bank account etc.

I've been seriously thinking about it jacksonb, but I haven't got the headspace right now to work out to keep all my contacts.

Do a scan of your puter with your installed anti-virus security. Could be something nasty.

I have Tori. This old thing is like Fort Knox, but you have a point, I'll do it again, especially the cleaner, which I haven't done for about 6 months. That might get rid of it. Thanks.

A full scan tends to slow the puter down and we all think- what the hell and shut it down. Yet it will find anything on your puter that shouldnt be there.

Depends on the computer. My old PC running XP and with loads of programs took 4 hours to run a full system scan and the scan really hit performance like a sledge hammer. The newer one, which runs Windows 7 and one I've tended to not load up with so many programs takes around 40 mins with hardly any noticeable drain on performance.
Both are on Norton, same release
Norton is shit....runs away. I use Avira and it's free.
Yep, mine takes about 3-4 hours and slows everything down ( I use Avira)
Cologne, the Messenger FAQs says:
When blocking a contact, always follow the proper steps: Click Block in the toolbar in the conversation window or in the main window, right-click the contact's name, and click Block. Remember that deleting a contact from your list does not block the contact from seeing and contacting you.
I have an old version of Messenger, but it has an option to only allow messages from people on your contacts list, I think. Worth having a look through all the options / preferences just to check.

ha ha, I don't want to incriminate myself, but my web habits are quite 'liberal' and I've never had a major problem with Norton. Would I trust a free package to provide the same protection? No, not at all!
I've never heard of anything like that Cologne.... but hope you get it sorted out
