Bit cheeky I know....  as everyone in the same boat in terms of travelling in this weather, but...

Daughters school (Cobham, Surrey) has called today as a snow day and closed, as (in their words) it was virtually impossible for the day kids to get in.   They then turn and tell the boarders that if their parents can get there they can home for the weekend.  (DOH!!!!! how bloody stupid is that!)

She is meant to be coming home tomorrow for the weekend anyway.,  (I am in Essex btw)

We've decided not to even try to go get her today....  but I would like her home this weekend.

I am watching the weather through the BBC website & through local news site.  Also watching the roads through Traffic England website.   But experience tells me that none of these are as accurate as people that are actually in these places.

So....    the route I am watching is..    A12 - M25, round to Dartford Crossing - M25 to Junction 9 (leatherhead)...   then heading for Esher, through Oxshott...  and down Sandy Lane!

Any news on the conditions along any of that would be appreciated xxx

Ditty.......The traffic on the M25 is abysmal there are tailbacks apparently. When and if you do reach my area, the snow isn't that bad......but only the main roads are OK....and not all of those. The side roads haven't been touched and they're like skating rinks.
Hope that helps, but I would get a traffic and weather update before you set out

thanks Kaytee...    we head towards Esher when we come off at J9...  but then veer through Oxshott...  & turn up Sandy Lane ... her school is on Sandy Lane.   I think Esher is at the other end of sandy lane (but I am not sure about that)

Buttocks...   ta for that...  I have a ten tabs open trying to keep up to date with them all...  when one site reports one stretch clear... suddenly another site reports an accident or lane closure...

Ditty, we've got family close to the M25 (Jct 4 & 5 Orpington/Bromley/Sevenoaks).
It was at a standstill 3 hours ago in both directions.
Of course that may have changed now, but given that it's close to the Weald and how bad that can get when there's the slightest bit of a dip in temperature.....
Then again, they're sure to get the M'ways sorted as a priority, so you could be lucky.

We're travelling from Sussex to Hampshire tomorrow - come hell or high water.
Hoping to take the coastal route along the A27 and just clip the bottom of the A3/M3.

Today's a write off .... but I am hoping there might be a chance of getting her tomorrow.

I think there will be, Ditty.  So many people commute back home on a Friday after the working week, so there's every chance that they'll be sorting the roads in time for that.
The forecast for Southwest Kent/North Sussex tomorrow is clear and bright.

ok...    My Dad is umming & ahhing about whether to go and get her for me (though he keeps throwing in sentences like "more sensible if she just stays there this weekend" and such)...

he says he will go get her if she really wants to come home & If I really want her to come home.  I do... she does...

So I think I am gonna tell the old man to go for it!   (& then sit & feel guilty all day)

lol...

you'd think so wouldn't you?

She's never negotiatied tubes by herself...  so the problem would be her getting round to Liverpool Street (yeah, I know, I have mollycoddled her)...

I'm a little bit annoyed with her at the moment... cos she is not answering texts... which means she is asleep... or her phone is turned off.    Cos it doesn't cross her mind that we might be trying to make the arrangements to get her home as requested.

the roads in most of Surrey are really treacherous

oh god!

I doubt the school would lend her it..   though the head of sixth or his wife might.

If she would answer her bloody phone I could ask her about it...

I think I will get her to walk to Oxshott Station....  then at least Dad won't need to leave the main roads... he'll only be off the M25 for a mile or two.

I am getting right narked at the lack of phone communication with her...   I am going to start spamming her Facebook wall now...   cos she will undoubtedly be checking that this morning!

Dad's just texted me...  he's at her school.   He left here at 10.30am...  and got there at 12.30!

it takes an hour and a half when the weather is fine & there is no traffic!   I am gobsmacked!  And very relieved.

So..  assuming she doesn't keep him waiting too long outside school (grrrrr.. I have just texted her and told her to move her backside pronto)...    Dad reckons they will be back by mid afternoon!

What would that be?

I dunno there are a few...  however, she has just texted again and said she missed breakfast & my Dad arrived before lunch so she is starving, and could I possibly have something ready for when she gets in (she's not home yet and I am already starting to bite my lip)...

I think... given the timescale... and as its gonna be 3pm.. so not a mealtime I will whack a pan of French Onion soup on..   I have french bread & cheese...   she loves homemade French Onion Soup...  but I have to do the bread & cheese seperately.. not the in the bowl way you are meant to do it...   basically cheese on toast with it.

TOnight...  I will probably do something with Gratin Dauphinoise potatoes, which she loves...   but will have to do an alternative cos the boys don't like it.

All sounds good to me. Your house sounds like mine ............it's like a bleedin restaurant sometimes catering for different tastes. I always said I'd never do that - not only did I (and still do) it for my kids - I do it for the grand kids too!

Yep!!!

I am better than hubby...   when he cooks he asks everyone individually what they want... and then goes & cooks four different meals (but at the cost of the quality of the meal... I think)

So... she's back (with huuuge bag of washing... matron has been struggling apparently )...  soup wasn't ready... so to put her on I did her a latte machiatto (the nescafe sachets) with squirty cream on...  and some biscuits).

Made the soup...

having 10 mins on here...

and then its time to do the rest of the dinner!
