Darlo I noticed a few weeks ago there was a new direction in EE where they were sloooowly bringing in more comedy, it's very subtle so could be missed. Heard about a previous Corrie scripwriter joining EE, don't know whether he wrote comedy or not but if he does it could helpt lift EE from what's it's become known for, whereas Corrie has always been recognised for the humour it injects into the storylines/scripts.

If it's true that the girl in the wheelchair doesn't need to use it permanently (non-paraplegic), then they should have her walking around sometimes and focus on the condition a bit more. A tad unrealistic to just stick her in the chair on what has seemed so far a permanent basis if her condition means that she does have some mobility. I'm a bit pissed off about that tbh!

Yes - it was always there from the off. Tony Warren created a masterpiece - to think that he created something that is entrenched in many peoples memories/lives is truly remarkable. For fifty years it has never been out of the top ten weekly viewing figures.

What an achievement . And tonight fifty years on we were treated to a top rate live episode. WELL DONE!

Ok, not being able to quote is becoming tiresome even though I'm patient, but maybe I'm not lol.

Soozy totally agree with you post

Darlo, if EE has at last realised that it's beneficial to add humour then it's a move forward for them. It's called Eastenders. I used to know the area and many who lived in the East End of London, real Eastenders are absolutely not miserable and depressing people, they're survivors of tough experiences and have a resilient down to earth humour about life and stuff, it's their humour that gets them through so much. Maybe, eventually EE will get that across with new writers who undertand real Eastenders.

I know, i think they should have her going up to the bar using her sticks and stuff... help viewers understand the condition more

I think they could educate a few people with this character... they should mention it a bit more

i think the fact that some on here (me included) aLREADy know about her condition shows that the production team are handling the storyline realistically and responsibly.Personally I don't think it should be shoved down peoples throats - that's not how things are in real life. I'm sure over time as her character progresses her condition will become more understood. Coronation Street aims to reflect life ....................I think it does it well and that is why it's successful. If It  can educate at the same time that's good but IMO - it shouldn't be a priority - nobody wants to be preached at whilst watching their favourite soap.

I'm not talking a full on lecture, but occasionally showing her going from the table to the bar, or her machine to the tea room using sticks to walk instead of being in her chair all the time... people tend to think that if someone is in a wheel chair then they have no mobility, would be nice to show that some people do

I was thinking about it earlier actually, I wonder if it was a fluff - maybe the character isn't supposed to get up and stuff, but the actress forgot and did what she would do normally in that situation?

Good point! She probably gets sick of being in the chair all the time.

That shouldn't count! She wasn't a tram-crash casualty

Have they said that the 4 deaths are all a direct result of the tram crash?

I don't think elaborating on the girl's condition would be ramming anything down anybody's throats If anything, it's more confusing that she's been in that chair since she started and all of a sudden she got up and stood at the bar.

Emmerdale have done a much better job of this with the Jackson storyline.

Anyhooo, I'm not gonna bark on about it. I suppose we all feel different about these things!
