FIREFIGHTERS CUT MAN FREE FROM MACHINERY

FIREFIGHTERS used cutting equipment to free a man whose arm had become trapped in a laminating machine at the Alcan Packaging Lawson Mardon plant at Moorclose Road, Salterbeck, Workington, on Tuesday evening.

Once freed, the man was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel before being taken to the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, where he was discharged after a check up.

He was at home resting on Wednesday. No more details about him were released by the company.

A spokeswoman for Lawson Mardon said a full investigation into the incident will be carried out by the company.

She said the accident was outside the category that requires the Health and Safety Executive to be involved in the investigation.

She praised the emergency services for their action. Group fire control officer Brian Mitchelhill described the freeing of the man’s arm as a tricky operation that took a little over an hour.

they should have said...he was at home packing
