Yep….so in the end they just sheared off the bolts , took the plate off , and left the screw ends in there …

Must be common, my dad had loads left in him after his accident...and one long bar in his left leg started moving up and protruding out of his kneecap They removed it, it really was quite heavy and maybe 15 inches long.
