is there nothing you can tie it to with something from the handle? 

It just won't budge either way. It's closed enough not to let anything big through but enough of a gap to let rain/snow through.

Oh wait.......I once went to Whitley Bay Ice Rink when I was at school and got crippled coz the attendant gave me odd size skates although It didn't register at the time

I've been to Whitley Bay a few times...last time was a hen party when I was about 20, I felt sick all the way back on the bus
