eh...it was dragging a four year old boy about for ten minutes, I feel sorry for it and the boy should have been supervised but seriously the child was at risk Also there should be no possible route into these enclosures, so the zoo's should hold some responsibility too

Yep, you can't blame the rilla for doing what it did but given that we are all extended from apes and the like, would the rilla have been trying to protect the kid?

it could have been, but would they dare take that risk? The boy had gone through some bushes and climbed a fence, the zoo's had a good safety record for 38 years as far as I'm aware...I think it should be just put down to a tragic event. the zoo certainly didn;t want to shoot the gorilla and if you're taking the zoo to court are you then going to charge the parents with negligence?

agree some parents let their kids run wild these days but agree a tragic accident -fault on both sides -couldn't they have just stunned the gorilla?
Sprout posted:Good point
even though I feel really awful for the Gorilla I'm sure he was just protecting the child, but even so his sheer strength protecting him could have caused serious damage

it would have taken too long to work Ros...I think they took the quickest way to make safe the situation...sadly it ended the way it did

I agree Ros ....some let their kids run a bit wild and never seem to see danger

I see your point, but this was a gorilla. I think they have a more nurturing temperament, and having said that, we can't really predict what they're gonna do I guess. Maybe it was the best outcome under the circs, even though it's awful

Pam, this wasn't an easy decision, the child's safety was first and foremost. We're all sad it ended the way it did, I believe the zoo and no other option and made the right call to be honest.
