Yes , it can be .....usually takes about 6 months ....start to finish ....that's what my dads took .....

took three months from probate to selling foruncles house
we took ages locating the deeds to uncles house - found in main bank in city centre -was night mare but probate was quite quick TBH

It's because you have to gather all the information about the assets .....which takes a while ....then apply for probate ....then actually get the assets and distribute them ...and if it's over ÂĢ325, 000 you need to also satisfy the tax man ......
