My friend I used to work with at Safeway/Morrisons (Jean) rings me every now and again to ask how things are. We talked about my situation and jobs and money and how much I was paying out every month.

I told her I was paying ÂĢ24 for life insurance (but have recently reduced it to ÂĢ15 as I couldn't afford the 24....I haven't even paid the first 15 yet).

She asked why I had that insurance and stated that I had no dependants and that I wouldn't benefit from it *Ding goes a light in Pam's head*  She was right!

And a lot of others I've spoken to in the past few days haven't got it either...funeral expenses would be paid out of sale of house.

I'm now about to save myself ÂĢ15 a month but it annoys me now how much I've been paying when I didn't need to ....and....I get nothing back!

you should have looked on line...that is a massive amount to pay monthly and not have some clause to get money back  To be fair, it sounds a racket

Even my house and contents are about ÂĢ29 I think  and speaking to Jean...she's gone through Saga and reduced her payments drastically....I did an online quote with them and if I've done it right it reduces to about just over ÂĢ10

I think by reading my papers today that was only within a month of signing. It's been about 7/8 years

bloody hell Pam..I would have got an endowment at that age and paid into it...the money you would have gotten back you could have prepaid for a funeral and still had cash left over. Plus, if anything had happened your estate would have automatically received the agreed amount if you had died after 12 months of taking the policy out

Saga is dearer for me...I am with Hastings Direct, for car and house  but it must have been the cheapest if you checked with Compare the market.

Even those sites confuse me at times. I dunno why, but they just do. I'm deffo going to cancel life insurance though and look again at house insurance. I'll drag family in on best practice if I have to

you would have if it was just burial costs Baz

Yes, but it had to be enough to cover the money from my divorce ( we split everything down the middle ...so it was half the house)  that  I put into the new house .....so it was a fairly big amount ....
