It was her leg...I think loss of blood and shock, she lived for a few hours. they carried her home and she deteriorated that night

yes - its wasn't like today -stiff upper lip and all that and TBH refreshing compared to everybody social networking these days

 

My granddad was stiff upper lip, wouldn't talk about it..but made him a bitter old man

He just said their culture was very different to ours ....

Well just work backwards from there .....the censuses are on line ....it's amazing how much you can find out

my granddad was in the Somme in the trenches -survived-he went to war at 16 years of age but that was pretty common I think and prob legal -imagine that today

I think it must have been so different in those days, they wanted to fight for their country

they said she was...but the family always denied it as there was no need. it was common practice to take a short cut to get to the shore Ros, I have done the same walk many times when I was young myself and never thought about the coal wagons rolling in.
