Dolly's done one side and half of the other of our grandparent, I just accept it when she's finished  she's got as far as early 1700 on the McKinney side.

wow -I did start -  traced mums side to the Lake district Salford and Glossop with some Irish but not got any further

 my grandad on mum's side had connections with Ireland as well - the census showed him staying as a house guest in Glossop

I also have some paperwork , poems etc. that he brought home from the prisoner of war camp ...

Yes ,I know ...but I was thinking of donating them to the National  Arboretum ...in Staffs ....I think they deal with Jap POW stuff ...

My granddads sister was killed near Haigh Pit by a train.......they said she was stealing coal, she was 12...she had no need to steal coal, all her family worked in the pit and they got their coal allowance 

If I remember rightly ......it's been a few years since I looked at it....the train backed over him and he was decapitated

yes - its wasn't like today -stiff upper lip and all that and TBH refreshing compared to everybody social networking these days

My dad rarely talked about his imprisonment .....but still had nightmares right up to the day  he died ....

It was her leg...I think loss of blood and shock, she lived for a few hours. they carried her home and she deteriorated that night

My dad actually wasn't bitter at all .....he always wanted to go back to Japan....he just said they were soldiers like him ....and what they did was just the way  it was ....
