I did a system restore this afternoon and it still hasn't fixed it but it's running a little better

No, not enough restore points, but as far as I can gather, I can go back to 8. But it takes some windows files off that I need and can be got back with back up disc.....I didn't make one 
Looks like it could be a complete reinstall and I'm frightened to do that.

I had a look a fair bit of stuff on the tube and also the net, but they all seem to say I need copy of 8 and because it's 8.1 now it's changed key number.
