Well I cook like a 9 year old so..... omelette?  Stew?  (only needs one pot and everything goes in together!)  Spag Bol is easy.

Jen. How about doing jacket potatoes, and whilst they are baking, do a filling of your choice and a chopped up salad. My grandson loves doing that. He really enjoys the peeling and chopping.He likes grating cheese and adding a bit of spring onion, or ordinary onion. He likes to mix a bit of mayo in tuna........... there are loads of things you can do with jacket spuds.

what about spag bol... tis not a lot of ingredients.. .chopping a bit of onion, celery, garlic and carrot ..then frying it up with the meat and some dried herbs and adding some tinned toms. .then boil the spaghetti. .all fairly easy cooking for a young un, under supervision, and tasty too

from spag bol you can then progress to a lasagne which is more or less the same just learning to make a white or cheese sauce .. lubbly jubbly

chocolate brownies, I have a really simple recipe for that, I may tpye it up for you later, after I have done my jobs

oh and stir frying stuff to add to fajitas . .like strips of chicken then prepare the salad fillings etc.. so they can make their own fajita parcels..

am feeling hungry now

pizza!!! we got lil Gyps and her friends making pizza, we prepared all the toppings and they went mental decorating their own pizzas quick and simple!

Olly, you have said their two favourite meals (fajita and spag bol) whenever you ask them for inspiration on what to have for dinner it's always one of those they suggest!

oh and what about bread making too ..get them pummelling the dough etc.. again probably messy but good fun and crispy hot bread to finish. .damn I am hungry again and I've got an urge to cook bread

Sezit, your post inspired me to make paste salad, i put the pasta and my girlie mixed the tuna, sweetcorn and mayo Just waiting for the pasta to cook and she can mix that in and hey presto luck is done!

My girls love cooking. So much so that they are planning it as careers. They're only 13 but have been cooking with me since they were about 8. We started off with simple things like mince and tatties, spag bol etc. I did all the sharp knife work but they did the rest with my supervision. You know your own kids and what they're capable of. Cooking is great for them though. It's something to do together and you can enjoy the result. Saying that we've had some horrendous meals where the girls were experimenting. I ate it though coz I didn't want to hurt their feelings.

Veg or meat or a combo of both kebabs..  get them to make a sauce to marinade the veg or meat in..then shove em under the grill..

or Sausage rolls or little pasties... or or or. .there's so many things..

I bluddy wish I wasn't due a shop cos my cupboards are nearly bare and I want to go cook everything  ... Now!

and never too soon to learn the basic Sunday Roast - tis the timings in this to make sure everything is cooked together which is harder than the actual cooking when learning

my Step Son is a curry pasta pizza guy but still rings if he is doing a roast for the timings 

Their thinking was if you like all the ingredients then surely they'll taste nice together....emmm NOOO. They ate them and said they were delicious. Pride (and not wanting to look stupid) 

I hope peeps with boys teach them all this too... tis great when kids are taught to cook. .too many people nowadays don't seem to know how.. I don't understand why unless tis no more Domestic Science lessons at school and mums or dads that don't cook either so can't teach their kids.. tis such a shame really
