Scotty, my google went all polish on me the other day, think it was a glitch! Did you try the " go to classic google " link on the page you have? It's by the search..
Scotty
Wish I knew but I have no probs on Firefox.
Thanks velvet.
I`m going to use Firefox until I can get it fixed.

Ah was it?
Yes, I tried classic google Slinki but when I clicked on the link it still went back to the nasty homepage. It won`t let me access anything.
I`ll get my computer pal to have a look at it for me.
Thanks for you help Slinki and everyone. Much appreciated.

It's an outside chance, but have you tried just typing in another address?
Just a thought, have you checked what your home page is set for on Internet Properties in your Control Panel? Try changing it to default or blank and see if that helps.

Just tried your tip Fluffy. Still the same.
Thanks for you help.
I`ll use firefox for the mo. It`s a pest though because all my favourites etc are on chrome.
I`ll get it fixed by my computer pal.

I checked that and it`s set at http://www.google.co.uk/.
I changed it to default and blank like you suggested Fluffy but homepage is still nasty.
I`ll use firefox until I get it fixed.
Thanks for all your help.
I was just thinking what I would do if I was you Scotty and that is uninstall Chrome, do a search for any leftover bits, delete them and then do a clean reinstall. It could be that the file has got corrupted. If necessary (if it proves awkward) you might need to do it in Safe Mode. Good luck.

Good idea squiggle, thank you.
I would be able to uninstall but I don`t know what you mean about searching for leftover bits.
Could you tell me how to do that please?

I would think that using the 'Uninstall hardware/software' tool on the control panel (which is on the start menu) should take care of the 'bits'
i had a prob with i.e ages ago, when it would load a page i had never heard of as my home page, which meant it wouldn't let me go anywhere.
it was a ..not trojan.. but some nasty infection thing.. i had to run a few virus checker things to get rid of it..
if i remeber more i will let you know.
and Renton, stop being such a girl
Scotty, before doing anything else have you tried clearing the browser cache - that seemed to work for someone who had problems with their homepage. This was the advice they were given:
You should probably try to delete your web browser i.e. Google Chromeâs cache. Remember that this would include deleting the browsing and download history, cache, passwords, cookies and other saved data. Follow the below steps to delete cache:
- Start Google Chrome and click on the wrench icon (settings) on the browser toolbar.
- Now click on Tools and then click on Clear browsing data.
- A new dialog will appear. Select the checkboxes which you wish to delete
- Click on Clear browsing data button.

Ok, I`ve done that. I`ve uninstalled and reinstalled and it`s still there squiggle.

Cant help you Scotty, but understand your frustrations, hope you can get it resolved

Thanks jacksonb. I think it is a virus. I`ll try running a virus checker.
i think i got 'stinger' to get rid of it scotty.
im trying to remeber, what it was.
oh it was a a 'hijack' but i got 'hijack this' to get rid of it, but 'hijackthis ' never worked for me, i think i then ran kaspersky anti virus on the free trial thingy.

I`ve now done that El Loro but it`s still there.
I`ll try a virus check. I hope it gets rid of it. If not I`ll get my pal over here to fix it for me.
I`m not good at techie things.
Thanks so much for all your help El Loro and everyone.

Thanks Skylark
I`m going to try the virus thingy that jackson suggested.
Scanning now. Fingers crossed.
Hows it going Scotty?

Still running Skylark. Could take a while but so far it`s saying no infections.
If this one doesn`t work. I`ll try another.

It doesn't always Fluffy and its always a good idea to check. Just for info for anyone who wants to know just do a computer search, in this case for Chrome, and see if any files are remaining. Sometimes if there are files still remaining you cannot get a clean install.
d/l stinger if your antiv doesnt work scotty and run that.
have a read of this scotty if you still have the prob.

Thanks jackson. Will do.

That looks like a very helpful site jackson.
I`ll have a proper read once this scan has finished. It`s slowing my computer down.
Many thanks for your help.
Scotty, try this -
Type [go] or [goog] and you'll notice that Google autocompletes using [https://www.google.com]. Here's the solution: press Shift+Delete when Google shows https://www.google.com as a suggestion. This way, you'll remove the URL from the list permanently (at least until you visit the SSL site again).

Thanks Blizzie. I just tried your suggestion but as soon as [https://www.google.com] appears and I try shift + delete it goes straight back to the locked encrypted version. It won`t let me click on anything.
I`ve ran the anti virus scans that jackson suggested too but nothing is shifting it.
And just to add to it. My Firefox is now in Slovenian. http://www.google.si/
Another try?
Click on control panel, internet options, programs, manage add-ons, search providers, (is Google set as default?), click on provider you want to view and maybe you can disable SSL Beta (if it shows up)

Gave that a go Blizzie but SSL Beta wasn`t there. I disabled another couple of things in there that have bothered me in the past. I didn`t know how to do that before so thanks for that.
I`m going to leave it for now and get a pal to look at it for me. I`ve still got some access so it`s not too bad.
Many thanks to you and everyone for trying to help me. It`s very much appreciated.
Scotty, to correct it for Firefox, when in Firefox you want to open Options from the Tools menu. In the General tab where it presumably says that the homepage is set to google.si/, change it to google.co.uk/ then click OK. Close Firefox and reopen and you should now see the correct Google page.
I`m off to give that a try now El Loro. I`ll be right back.
It worked!
Thank you so much El Loro.
