i won't stop backing my daughter in what she want's too do and has achived being a mere girl

This has got absolutely nothing to do with being a "mere" girl - I said that women have as much right to play football as men - well I defended their right to do so.
I just said it looked wrong , It looks ungainly.

Aimee - I am an ardent feminist and if your girl wants to play football for England, even though I would not watch, I would support her right to do it if that is what she wants.

Nothing to do with women being inferior - all to do with choice.

Oh please don't fight guys.    Everyone is entitled to a view and I am sorry that people have been offended by things.  I am sure the people who offended didnt mean to, but I am sorry that people are offended.   I don't think women look butch playing football; I actually like watching them!  But don't tell the missus!

No offence Prom but I think it's a bit unfair to say female footballers have no skill; I think they play really well some of them, but I do respect your opinion that you will always think of it as a man's game.  I think most men always will to be honest.    It's nothing personal; it's just how we've been conditioned.  It's like most people think of the main caregiver as the mother, but it's nothing against men or the dad, it's just the general view from many.  I don't think there's any malice or offence intended by anyone.  So let's all agree to differ, and not fight.  PEACE.

I've taken a huge interest in football since the early sixties. It has taken huge leaps from the time when men were standing on Kops, pissing in each others pockets, and dinosaurs like Brian Clough were being homophobic, and Bobby Charlton was saying that there was no place in football for young girls ( I think the young girl concerned had the surname Duncalf, she had been running rings around young boys but at a certain age had to pack in) Now I support my team in a stand which contains lots of females, and ladies football is in the ascendancy. Last Saturder, as the Holgate End quite rightly and roundly abused Phil Brown, a female voice behind me shouted, "yer a cock end!" Women! Take your place in football, you deserve it!

I've only been to one football match...   I got dragged to it by a boyfriend when I was 16, living in Leeds.

It was Leeds vs Millwall...  which meant nothing to me at the time (though afterwards loads of the graffiti made a lot more sense)

Some fat bloke standing behind us wee'd on me!

And that is where football & I parted company!

Marta is awesome, our own Kelly Smith is as good in my opinion.
Ditty! Leeds v Millwall  What a baptism into footie, their hooligans used to be legendary - you're a brave woman.
Joe - What is it about Tango man that causes everyone to abuse him so? He got heaps at the Emirates - a lot of it from the female fans.

He started by suggesting that we couldn't afford to pay our players, and various other jedi mind tricks. Also their defence had taken on a new robust attitude to "tackling" which he seemed to be encouraging. It's wrong to generalise but when you play teams from that county you just hope that you finish without severe injury, alas Robson ended up with a stud through his ankle, lotsa  stitches and out for a  while.

There have been some well-reasoned and knowledgeable comments in this thread - most of them posted by the ladies   WTG Amiee's daughter btw!

Then we see those tired old cliches sanctimoniously being churned out - "everyone's entitled to their opinion" and "I will defend to death someone's right to...", etc.  Hello? It's hardly rocket science is it?  Of course everyone's entitled to an a opinion.  It's just that - in here - it seems that some are more entitled than others.  I can't help wondering what would have happened had it been PP who had posted the crap I've seen in this thread.  Actually, I'm not wondering - I know what would have happened

He's full of that Joe. I remember after the fictitious spitting incident at the Emirates how he went mad because 'our captain was wearing a leather jacket and not a club suit' Wtf our players wear is none of his beeswax but he is a real rentagob.
We caned him good and proper at the Emirates. One of the over seventies ladies I sit with at a lot of games started the 'You're meeting Cesc in a minute' chant - which gave everyone a laugh and there was none stop Liar Liar and Tango Tango chants as well as the more personal and pointed abuse from block 1

I am not a football fan.
The only match I went to was Celtic & Rangers. Not a good introduction.
The remarks made by the Sky commentators were neanderthal and should be from a bygone age.
But it doesn't surprise me.
It is a sport which attracts a ridiculous amount of money.
A sport which a recent survey said displayed the worst style of overall management.
A sport in which very few people smile.
A sport in which race and sexual orientation are treated as sub-human characteristics.

I don't really like to see anyone lose their job, however News International (and others with an interest in the market economy) have carried out a smear campaign against the BBC for many a year. People in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones, and all that. He also is one of the people with some sort of suit against the NOTW so he had to go.

Apparently new old footage, of Gray asking his female co presenter to tuck his microphone pack down his trousers, has emerged.

Also -

Earlier today, a third Sky Sports presenter was taken off air. Andy Burton was shown discussing Sian Massey with Gray ahead of Saturday's match in footage leaked to sister channel Sky News.

Burton said "apparently, a female lino today, bit of a looker", with Gray responding: "A female linesman?"

"He [a Sky Sports crew member] says she [Massey] is all right," Burton continued, "now I don't know if I should trust his judgment on that?"

Gray then said: "No, I wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't ... I can see her from here," before swearing and adding: "What do women know about the offside rule?"
