We always had mince and tatties when I was a kid. It was always boiled potatoes though - never mash . Good cheap meal
It's funny how we try all this fancy food but still go back to the old faves eh?
My mum was a whizz at making great meals out of cheap ingredients. A lot of people could do with lessons in how to do that nowadays

Another comfort food of mine is crisps. Any flavour....not bothered. Not really a dinner though is it?

When I don't know what I want my OH hides the takeaway menus. I have my fave one on speed dial anyway
Make a concoction of stuff you have in the fridge. Sometimes those are best

Never buy baking potatoes from Asda....they are shite. Buy them from Tesco, Morrison, Sainsburys or Marks.
All I do is wash it....dry it and stick on a shelf in the oven. A medium sized takes about 1hr 15 mins on electric 180. Any smaller about an hour....any bigger about 1hr 30-45mins.
Prod it with a fork...and you can tell when it's cooked. It'll feel fluffy inside.

I don't have enough money on me for a takeaway luckily.
I'm thinking I might just have a sandwich later

So I don't need to prick it all over or wrap it in foil?
I'm cooking on gas btw

We used to have what my mum called freezer nights too. Whenever my mum wanted to defrost the freezer we'd end up having the wierdest combos.
Crispy pancake, croquettes and fish fingers
Hash browns, turkey drummers and cheese hamwich
They were cracking nights

I just asked the OH what is a medium sized tattie and he held up his hand and said "bout this size"
I'm gonna make baked tattie with chicken and salad tomorrow now

I find things in my freezer I don't ever remember buying...all the time. I have a fridge freezer and a te
tall upright freezer with 6 drawers...and they are all full!

I could never get the hang of poached eggs, tried every hint and tip ever. But himself does all the cooking now...so I don't have to learn

I have a 6 drawer one too. I have my own drawer full of my frozen party food and nibbles. NOBODY is allowed near it
I find things in mine like 3 half full bags of scampi

I can't do poached eggs either

Can you not get one?
I buy 3 loaves of bread and freeze them every week.

Can't really afford one Queenie and even if I could, I have nowhere to put it.

Oooh I should have my own drawer...mmmm....
Where do I start with mine...half bag of oven chips, quarter bag of breaded scampis ( I remember eating those....a bag was too much but half was too little )...pies, sausages....and the list is endless. Yet when it's lunch during this week for half term...kids can find nothing to eat!

Thats what we do, because we are students we obv don't use the family packs of meat in one go so buy them when they are on offer and freeze them in separate portion sizes. And stick our bread in the freezer and just take a slice out when its needed.

My mum used to have a poached egg pan with these black cups that you crack the egg in. You then put it in the slotted pan and poach them...there was about 6 cups.
Anyone seen the toaster with the poach egg bit on the outside?
