Hubby has an Italian born SiL who never taught her children to speak Italian.

My best friends wife is German, their daughter can speak German fluently. She switches languages at will, very impressive.

Well done to your best friend's wife.

Hubby also has a Welsh speaking SiL who never taught her kids any Welsh.

an Italian who can't make pasta

both my parents were Oirish - my dad was Gaeltacht (Irish first language) I learnt a bit of it but as I lived with my grandparents (maternal ones) who didn't speak Irish, we never learnt much except what we got taught at school.  Then I came here to live and never spoke it again - still know bits and pieces but do regret not learning it properly

Unfortunate as it's a missed opportunity. Kids pick up languages so much quicker than adults.

I predict it will be as sour a po face you will ever see and that his end piece to camera will be all about how his food was way better than the competition.
