She only lived there for six years. She reminds me of those people who move abroad and develop an accent after the first month.

I pickEd up a Southern ( US ) drawl after only a couple of weeks  

Baz!  Mind you, hubby can pick up an accent if he shares a lift for a week with his Geordie mate.

I lived in NYC for 2 years didn't change my accent 

Strange thing is I've lived up here for nearly 30 years and never developed a Cheshire accent .....but I think that's out of stubbornness  

I was the same when I lived right up North. There was no way I was picking up that accent.

Funnily enough, youngest son's GF is from Aberdeenshire and she has a lovely, polite accent. None of that 'Doric tongue' shennanigans.
