I would - I'd be a nightmare guest! No, seriously, I'm completely anti-smoking and my guests all offer to go outside for a fag, but I always tell them it's ok to smoke in the house and give them an ashtray. Most still go outside anyway and I'm glad, but I think as host you try to cater for your guests.

You better be quick - it's already open. Now.. when I say 'dinner at mine' - a packet of cheese and onion counts so long as I've wine eh?

Funnily enough though... one thing that really annoys me when I go to other people's houses is being asked/told to take your shoes off as soon as you step through the door. Just seems so unfriendly Confused

I don't think I have ever asked anyone to remove their shoes but everyone that visits automatically does it. I must have a well clean house me Eeker

I think most people will take their shoes off anyway out of politeness, I generally do in folk's houses... its just being asked straightaway that annoys me Laugh Makes me want to go and trample mud across cream carpets Devil

I think the problem is a lot of observant muslims won't allow alcohol in their houses under any circumstances and some won't even go into a house where alocohol might be. Taking off your shoes in their houses is also expected.

I guess if you want to be friends with people who observe these rules you just accept it. Smiler
