We get them regularly. So i decided to have some fun. This happened last week LOL.

Foreign sounding guy,

"We work on behalf of MicroSoft and we can tell from your signal that you have issues with your computer".

Do you now, i thought.

"Well i'm going into prison for 16yrs so i won't be needing any computer." I said.

"No - listen to me. You have problems we can solve."

"I'm going to prison for murder - you can help with that?"

He didn't get it ... i hung up

Lol. That's what I do Soozy Mind you I had a really cheeky one on the other day ! I was doing my usual questioning everything they said , and she ended up getting cross and asking why I was asking so many questions ! But I have to admit , that like Renton , I find it fun playing them at their own game

I tried that the other day Mrs H... but they've come up with a new answer.... I said was he calling from the number on my caller ID and did he mind if I recorded the call... and he said that would be fine and that they were calling from a general number

Yup, anything home improvement wise that will work a treat. Energy suppliers etc though it won't.

I'm always polite with them tbh, Might be because i used to do cold calling (straight from the phone book) so i know they are just doing a job. although you will always get that one stubborn rude one who just keeps going on and on THEN after saying 3 times 'No thank you, I'm not interested' i end up just putting the phone down.

Why the third time, why not after the first time?

If you are still on the phone after saying No, not interested the first time then surely that would suggest to them that that was a 'knee-jerk' response and that you are interested really!

I used to always be polite Jen, for the same reason: just some poor bugger with a crap job, earning peanuts. However, having had so many who won't take a simple 'no thanks, I'm not interested' for an answer and want to know the ins and outs of why you're not interested and then start getting aggressive, I just cut out the middle bit now and put the phone down immediately they start waffling on with their blurb.

I also joined the Telephone Preference Service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html which means that anyone now getting through is either breaking the law or ringing from a country where it doesn't apply. I suppose I should therefore ask for their details etc. when they do get through so as to report them, but can't really be faffed!

Having said that, there is of course a difference between a legit' company trying to sell you something and scams which prey on the vulnerable who are conned into giving them money and personal information and believing, as in this example, that there is a problem with their computer, (presumably plenty of people fall for them or they wouldn't continue?) Those callers know what they're doing, so I don't blame people for 'having fun' with them although I personally couldn't be bothered.

I have an unlisted number, am registered with TPS and still get annoying cold calls.

Some companies are getting around the law by stating they are conducting a survey and not selling anything. However, once you have completed their survey, (about some sort of home improvement) then they just happen to have some salesperson they can pass you onto. I tend to say, "I'm not interested" and if they continue to witter on, I hang up. If they get me in a bad mood I go on a full on rant about how I am ex-directory, registered with TPS and they shouldn't have my number, then they tend to hang up on me.

I am seriously considering one of those call blocker machines. I like the idea of zapping cold callers.
