There's a programme about it on Sunday.
They just had a trailer on for it and were talking to two people who survived it.
Although I didn't know either of the people they spoke to I did recognize the two main places the man was in. The 'tunnel' under the railway and the open area with the high-flat behind him. That was just a stone's throw from where I used to live.

I'm in Glasgow..the East End,I remember my mum talking about how the "Forge" a steel and iron foundry in the East end was targeted and a few bombs dropped ,none hit it,but one hit a road nearby and some tenement houses.It's now a shopping mall.

DOCUMENTARY: Clydebank Blitz

Date: Sunday 13th March 2011 (starting in 1 day)
Time: 18:00 to 19:00 (1 hour long)

Documentary about the intense bombing suffered by Clydebank over two nights in March 1941, which saw such severe devastation that only seven properties were left undamaged and the population fell from almost 60000 to a little over 2000. The incident was kept quiet due to wartime censorship, but now some of the people who survived the attack recall the harrowing events of one of Britain's worst bombing raids and Scotland's biggest civilian disaster.

Because of worries that water might be contaminated, Clydebank's domestic water supply was treated with twice the normal quantity of chlorine. People were warned to boil all drinking water before use. However, water carts from Glasgow delivered supplies of clean drinking water. My grandfather was in the fireservice and so was his eldest son, My dad (2nd son) was in the navy. The 3rd son and the daughter (4th child) had been evacuated to America - to their mother's family.

Yes Velvet,I'm old enough to remember the big steel Jackhammers pounding away and the "trains" crossing the roads from the foundries.

I was very young then.

My gran had her home in Whitecrook bombed during the Clydebank blitz. She went to stay with relations the following night... and their home was bombed.

Up until the regeneration and refurbishment of Clydebank in the '80s, there were still areas of 'missing' houses and 'shored up' building ends.

No wonder their memories of those two nights are still so strong and clear, even after 70 years.

Caught up with it on BBCI player. I didnt realise the extent of the devastation, whole families wiped out and over 1200 estimated as killed

The bombers coming back a second time was beyond belief. It was very moving, i was nearly in tears at the man telling the story of the potato , the wee boy was playing with
