I'm listening to the news just now and this duy who's hypothesizing that it was a catastrophic failure and a controlled landing is making a lot of sense!

they've now amended it to read " sounded like a huge explosion" .
Why, when they mention the time, do they say local time? The time in Scotland is exactly the same as the time in any other part of the UK!

I never noticed that ! Though I suppose it may be for international coverage.. relatives in the US just rang to check all was well ( Clutha and the Vicky are our "family gathering" venues)

Yes, the international aspect occurred to me later.
It's just so awful. One of my friends was out and about in Glasgow last night, and he happens to be one of those people that tags his location all the time on facebook. As soon as I heard, I went on his page and followed him from Meditarraneo to All Bar One to Delmonicas so I knew he was okay.

I was at the Royal Concert Hall - gig finished at 10.20 then we drove home. My Glasgow geography is rubbish but my mate reckons it was about a mile away - come to think of it there were a few sirens as we were leaving the car park, but didn't think anything of it. Didn't even know about it until we got back to my friend's and her son told us.
Horrified at the coverage I have to say.. intrusive questioning, speculation by the media.. it's almost like some of the reporters are relishing the situation. Latest on the BBC is they're questioning the original structural integrity of the pub.. a helicopter fell on it FGS!!

Really? It stinks eh? I've not seen much on the telly yet - just watched the JimMurphy interview and I heard the girl saying about the roof not coming immediately on the radio this morning. Awful situation - glad everyone here is ok, but really feel for those affected.

So glad you're safe. You have no idea how close I was to ringing the help line asking after Scottish Kaffy Baffy who drives a flash green car (she has a big round yellow face too)

Eight dead now (3 in helicopter and 5 from pub) and 14 seriously injured in hospital. Several more were taken to hospital, but only had minor injuries.
Flags in Scotland to be flown at half-mast for the weekend.

The balcony from which this picture is taken, is the Holiday Inn Express - where they took a lot of the casualties in the first instance.
The Clutha is the rightmost building.
