Seems like bad news for employees of City Link after rescue talks failed.

Below is a breakdown (from the BBC) of the locations and employee numbers affected.

Let's hope they find positions within other parcel delivery companies soon.

I've often seen the vans whizzing about.

They couldn't be saved (seemingly) but i bet their work/contracts will be gleefully swallowed up by "bigger" networks.

Unfortunately I think that may be in part by Yodel, which seems to be UK biggest carrier according to the news.

I hate Yodel with a passion, they have failed to deliver a single package to me. I cancel when I know they are delivering.

I'm pleased with Amazon delivery service at the moment, they seem to have managed a delivery each time or left with a neighbour.

I never received a single package correctly from City Link - everything was either destroyed/damaged when I personally took receipt of it or they threw it over my garden gate and damaged it - that's if they bothered to deliver it to my address at all.  I can't believe I'm saying this but they were much worse than Yodel

Like a lot of these firms, they pay their drivers peanuts, expect them to deliver to unrealistic times, they weren't computerised to the same standard as most courier firms and their staff were so disaffected, hence why deliveries were not handled properly.  Can't see anyone wanting to take the firm on but the contracts will be gobbled up by Yodel and their ilk.

Apparently DHL put in a bid for them but they turned it down a few month ago.  I do feel sorry for the workers and how it was handled.

I get a lot of my stuff from Lands End, who use Hermes, who apparently don't have that good a reputation either, but I love LE's stuff so much I'm prepared to put up with the iffy deliveries.

Of the last 3 we had:-

1) Took about 3 times as long as their stated turn around.

2) Delivered within the stated timescale.

3) Ordered on 16/12/14 - has been 'lost' but replacement was delivered on 24/12/14.

I pointed out that their 'fully tracked' claim was a lie as a 'fully tracked' item would have its whereabouts known at every second of the day and thus could NEVER be lost.

I have had seven (yes seven!!) failed deliveries by Herpes for the same parcel.

They tried to tell me that they tried my address on two of those occasions but no one was home - I pointed out that they could not have as I was on holiday and in all day (I had a mild cold so stayed in for a few days).

I cancelled the order with the supplier and told them my Herpes saga.

I've had similar experiences as Pengy with City Link at work - we stopped using them in the end.     Shame for the people though, but as a company I found them really inefficient and mainly quite rude.       You can't beat DPD for deliveries imo - I'm always so pleased if I order something and find out they're the delivery company    I ordered a present for my sister's birthday on 31st Dec.  Got a text am on 2nd Jan telling me it would be here between 1 - 2 p.m.   Fantastic.

DPD are brilliant.

They are my favourite delivery company bar none. 100% success rate so far and an unbelievably customisable delivery option.

I Don't Work For Them BTW.

No complaints from me, and I don't work for them either.
