That really made me laugh.  It's definitely Christmas in our house when I get the sherry out.  Half a bottle for the trifle, and the rest for me.  With ice.

I don't particularly like Sherry TBH. Just as well cos once it's opened no one gets a look in - it's my mums favoured tipple. None of the dear stuff mind - she hates Harveys Bristol Cream or Crofts Original and the like .................just a cheap Medium sherry (and a box of Fererro Rocher) and she's in her element. I have got a bottle of Tia Maria in for her as well cos she loves that too.

My Mum liked a Stout, cos it was good for her

Up until this year I didn't like sherry very much either   But I bought a couple of pale sherries back from Spain (after a tasting session) and they're totally different to what's on the shelves in the UK.  It's a really under-rated drink here.

Didn't the Queen mum drink gin and dubonnet?  I don't like the sound of that 'cos I don't like dubonnet.

I hate Gin with a passion. Vile stuff -TBH I think I have a bit of an allergy to it - it makes me throw up. I'm allergic to Aspirin - is there some common ingerdient (I seem to think I#ve read that somewhere) or maybe it's the tonic.

Doubt it's the tonic because that has quinine which is used to stop nausea.

I like a nice tall glass of Bombay Sapphire and tonic, loads of ice and a chunk of lime;  it's lovely and refreshing.

Syd, my nan was the same.  If she had a glass of stout then all was right with the world

I suppose it's too late for one of them now...

I sometimes think cheap and/or slimline tonic has an aspriny taste tbh.     I drink Fever Tree Tonic now (recommended by Flossie and I'm forever in his debt for it)    Bestest tonic in the world.
