Would you buy kids secondhand presents? I don't mind secondhand things but if they had already been opened & played with?

I did buy a second hand games console years ago because I thought my son was too young to look after a new one. It was an Atari I think.
We got around not having a box etc by rigging it up to the TV and saying Santy had done it and must have played a game.
Suppose it all depends on the toy.

things like that or others in good condition I think is okay but bead sets (with bits missing & ripped box) & one of those put together car sets with small nuts & bolts with the box selotaped together & not all the pieces there. I just don't think its right

No that's just wrong!
got my daughter a second hand guitar. it was in excellent condition and nearly ÂĢ100 cheaper than if i'd got a brand new one and had loads of extras with it.
Yip my daughter got a second hand quad bike as part of her Christmas. Was my neighbours who couldn't work out how to fix it when it broke , she gave it to me for free , my stepdad fixed it and it works a dream
Would have cost ÂĢ300 brand new. She loves it!

In the past we have bought loads of Polly Pocket large pieces second hand, save a fortune on new prices. Not bought any second hand this year.
got my 2 lads 2nd hand laptops
many years ago, I often got my son second hand things and sometimes I could have got him new. I felt that if I got him grander and grander things and new, his expectations would also just grow and grow and then he was headed for a fall.
I did find he valued what he got, highly nadnow he is a man he think swhat i di was right and great.

like I said there are some things that are brilliant secondhand but there are just some things that should be binned once pieces have been lost or broken
