Monopoly ftw.

Well I love Charades and Who Am I but our favourite boardgame is Scattegories - we've had ours for years - don't know if they still make it. Pictionary is always a good option too!

Pictionary, or collect the quizzes out of the newspapers (and don't cheat!!)

Taboo is a favourite in our house - a version of word association  .... really good fun and slightly competitive It has a squeaky buzzer thing that gets used a LOT!

right here is THE xmas game.

It is called boy, girl,fruit, flower. You all have a piece of paper each and divide it up into 4 ( or 5 catergories).These are then titled... Boy Girl Fruit Flower.

One person then goes through the alphabet in their head - the person next to them stops and you all have to give a boys name beginning with that letter, a girl's name, a fruit and a flower.
The round is either timed or stops when the majority have finished.
score 10 points for an original answer and 5 if you share it with someone else.
Then the next person goes through the alphabet silently and the person next to them stops them and off you go with that letter.

All ages can play and it is so much fun and can cause all sorts of debates and arguments..


Of course you don't have to have those categories,.... you can have what you like... tv progs, films, books, countries, foot ball teams, counties, authors.. the list is endless.

Great fun ( despite that lengthy explanation!).

The Yes/No game ..............very easy - make it up as you go along. You only need a timer (and a gong if you've got one)

Have you got an X Box Hoochie, dance party games are fun... or DVD intro music games that span decades. The Buzzer Playstation games are excellent for parties too.

Rapidough is just hilarious.

Its like pictionary but with playdough. You have to model the word on your card for your team mates to guess against the clock. (You can play with very few people too) The winning side takes a plunger worth of dough off the loosing team each round, so by the end the loosing team is trying desperately to make the Eiffel tower out of a bit of dough the size of a bit of old chewing gum its brilliant fun.

Marks and Spencer (and Amazon) sell card games.  Like Trivial Pursuit but without the board.....and a few sound similar to Issy's idea.

Oh yeah, forgot that one, that's one of the 'long standing' ones!

I like the sound of that.

Used to love that Cosi, back in the day with friends...Always had boys v girls teams and it used to get v v competitive!... One of my bf's, (died in his early 40s) actually ate a card once to prevent us girls winning for the third time on the trot

I used to play that years ago ...........my husbands younger brother used to fleece us when we went ooop north for a visit. I've completely forgotten how to play - must look up the rules on tinternet. I remember it being fun.

Last year I bought my daughter 'The Logo Game'....We love it, this year they have a new version

We had a really wild Christmas a few years ago with a game of Jenga!

Supes - Articulate is good fun.. we've had it for years and it keeps being brought out again.  

We played Deal or no Deal last year, it was boring making up the boxes tho. But when it was sorted it was fun. The best one tho is Twister, cant beat it, but not for those with arthritis !

We have an electronic Deal or New Deal Game.....the music does get on your wick after a while though.

We also used to play a game similar to Issy's...whiich we called Town, Country, River, Sea (girls name, boys name, animal, bird, flower, tree)

Everyone has a pad and those are the categories....to pick a letter we just used random picks i a book...(someone names a page, a paragraph, line, word etc)

I am going to treat myself to a new scrabble game. Have discovered OH loves Scrabble and I do too.
