That is a shame..... my kids loved reading... and being read to.....and I couldn't imagine a world without books

me either baz...one of the joys of having children was for me, the lovely warmth and closeness of the bedtime stories and rereading all the books I'd loved as a child ... The Enchanted Wood springs to mind ...and discovering Roald Dahl and of course Harry Potter. 

The Hungry Caterpillar.... is one that has been passed down from my kids to my grandkids Hoochie

I'm a fan of "The Hungry Caterpillar" too Baz. Another favourite of mine is "The Tiger Who Came to Tea"

Oh I think I remember that one too Triggers  My grandkids also like the Gruffalo series

The Hungry Caterpillarwill have to be first on my list when I eventually get grandchildren .... hopefully not too long now.

Aahh, what's not to love about The Gruffalo? Superb!

That one is a corker baz! And then my cousin got us Dr. Dog when my boys were about 5 and 3.....it's a scream. I loved reading to them, and now they are 11 and 9 they help out and read to our baby twin girls. My husband is brilliant at making up stories of his own, and he puts people that we know in the stories too. Bedtime story time is a magical time

Awwww my son used to love those.... and I've just introduced my youngest grandson to them....... I like them , cos not only are they  very funny, but they are a nice length...

the bedtime story was essential...  it "sealed the deal" on bedtime!

they are perfect!   Mr Messy was my fave...  hubby & still do the Mr Neat & Mr TIdy "TIdy & Neat, Neat & Tidy" thing...

I wrote to Roger Hargreaves when I was 6 and he wrote back and drew me a picture of Mr. Tickle blowing me a kiss

I used to draw Mr Men all the time when I was a kid.  I love the Mr Happy book as well... when his grumpy doppleganger came to stay!

The other book I really loved... but my son used to get the hump if I read.. was Boris the Sulky Vulture... it has a repetative bit that says "shoulders hunched up, toes curled in, Boris the Vulture is sulking"....   it didn't take long before it got used on the boy!

It really was baz....it's in a frame in my parents' downstairs loo  Next to my letter from Buck House thanking me for wishing Prince Charles and Lady Di a long and happy marriage

If she were alive I could laugh at that yeah?

I know dittty....still quite funny in a gallows humour way....my Charles and Di mug stayed intact till about 2 years ago.

I had one of those, my mam hated it so much she hid it so she wouldn't have to read it

I have a commemerative Bells Whiskey 'bell' that I keep trying to flog on ebay (I liberated it from my parents corner cabinet... it had to go  

I am hanging on for some sort of anniversary or something before I list it again.  Cannot imagine why it didn't sell... its so ... tasteful -

she must have had the wrong one then!  most of them were a fairly painless read.

Unlike Dick King-Smith books... I think the bloke was even a children's laureate ... but his books were awful to read out loud...  I used to slip them under the bed!

My 2 used to love Mr Men books, think we still have some lying about somewhere. Going back to the 70's now How times have changed these days..

That Dick King-Smith bloke wrote the Babe (as in the pig) story... but it wasn't called Babe.. and it wasn't as good as the film.

The Celebs trying to get their Kids books sold hasn't helped the other good publishers.. Sarah Ferguson is one that bombed i seem to remember.

Really?   I thought she had sold huge numbers of her Budgie books,and assumed that she had earned quite a bit from the cartoon series and all the associated merchandise.

I watched Budgie the cartoon series...with the kids obviously...it was quite good.

It looks from ebay that it needs to be full, there's one on at present at £19.99.

I reckon the problem today is, too many parents think it's the school's job to do everything for their kids, apart from pick up the family allowance..

I have a friend who teaches Primary 1 children, aged 4/5. She said she was shocked at the number of children who couldn't hold a pencil properly, had never been read a story and had never sat at a table to eat meals.
