I see there are at least three cover versions in that list. Surely the recognition should go to the songwriters?
I also like Robert Plant, and Mrs Jer loves his current music. A bit too sub-country for me but at least he can perform it live.

Don't get me started on that... I've got into huge arguments here and elsewhere on the net for championing original creative talents over numpty 'me too' wannabe cover version 'artists'.

There's nothing wrong with cover versions per se - some can actually be better than the originals - but when people are up for awards with someone else's songs.... that just doesn't seem right.
It would piss me off if someone won an award for something I'd written.
And the fact that there are two X Factor contestants in the shortlist absolutely baffles me.

Hold on there are three X Factor contestants - and a judge
To be fair, a lot of music isn't sung by the person who wrote it, and even then most songwriters collaborate with songwriters. It's quite rare to see all credits go to the one person on a CD sleeve or vinyl.
But to win an award for a cover of a classic that had success in its own right, nah. There should be a designated category for best cover version if they want to recognise such efforts.

It's definitely coming across as The X Factor Awards Ceremony . And I wouldn't be happy either if some clown won an award singing something I released as an original recording but it's all about presentation these days not talent or young and sexy as someone else posted though I fail to see how Olly and Matt fall into that category
Can she sing? Can she bollox... god knows why they all pursued a solo career. None of Girls Aloud have got anywhere with a solo career, well possibly one... and even then its not because she is any good when it comes to singing. If she wasnt a judge on the x factor she would be done for, just like Nadine Coyle.

Karma - that's actually very true. I think it's the whole talent show thing that gets me.
Ok, there's clearly a market for it but should they really be nominated for Brit awards?
I suppose I just come from an era where there was real music and real bands ... now I'm sounding old
Prom - I concur about Murs and Cardle - baffling.

That's just asking for X Factor contestents to have recognition
Meaty, I'm not saying Cheryl's the best singer ever far from it but she's not bad at all and to be fair that clip you posted was a semi-acoustic version of a song that you can't really put your heart and soul into singing. It was laid back, she was in tune and didn't too much wrong. I think you just don't like her and that's fair enough but you're getting a bit desperate to discredit her with that particular clip imo of course

You dismiss the power of young girls and the power they have over their parents to buy such crap for them. I have 2 pre teens and they adore Cheryl. I don't help them because I think she's a strong woman.

How's she a strong woman Cags?
Near enuff handed on a plate.

I'm old school. I love proper instruments played with passion.

Me too Cagney - and lyrics that actually have meaning and substance.

No matter what she did to get where she is now there is nothing....NOTHING...prepares you for the man you love cheating on you. That would break anyone..let alone being in the spotlight and having every tear you cry published. I admire her.

*Agrees with Prom* I think she gets a hell of a lot of unfair abuse........Just saying
It probably doesn't help that I don't take to her much as a person either, and I used to, in the early days of GA she seemed raw and natural. I started going off her when she married Ashley and they did that Lottery ad - it had sell out written all over it and it was then that I started to think that it wasn't just about music and dance as she'd claimed.
My mind was pretty made up when I saw her Piers Morgan interview. Rehearsed, scripted and hugely contrived.

This isn't perhaps the time or place Karma, but I am enjoying the Keef book muchly.

Personal choice.
I have better things to do in life than go round slaggin people I don't know and who don't in any way affect my life.

Talking about a real artist? I'd say it's most appropriate darlink! Thanks for the update, it's on my 'next to read' list. Likewise, the Sugar book is failing to disappoint. Reference:

I thought that interview was touching. She opened up and her emotions were real. IMO.
To me she represents an average singer, has some dancing capabilites, an attractive woman thanks to all the enhancements available today. Had a tough life romantically but jeeez sooo many women around the world have so she doesn't get brownie points from me for that. Whether she wins the award or not I couldn't care less, it's all hype

I tried to believe it Cags, and was determined to watch it with an open mind. But in comparison to other high profile figures who have been on there, her answers were carefully thought out and very slow. I DID believe the emotion regarding Ashley, I'll say that. She clearly loved him and he treated her like a piece of shit when she no longer mattered.
But watching other people with interesting lives like Kelly Osbourne, Elton John..etc. They were natural and impulsive, they were real. She just didn't seem real to me in that interview.

Can I ask why did that put you off her Karma? I'm curious

We're not all in the spotlight though. I bet you the first thing she wanted was fame. I bet you the last thing she wanted was for her husband to cheat on her.
Yeah...some of us..a lot of us have been through it but how many have had it spread over every scandal rag?

Compared to a lot of people who he's interviewed Cheryl is small time. Most of them had years of experience of interviews...OR...if they hadn't...Piers actually liked them. I felt for her and no matter what anyone else says that means something to me. Maybe it's a personal thing
Plan B for me and I totally agree with Cags on everything she says on Cheryl, the things that poor girl has gone through and still come up trumps fer fecks sake she nearly died but people feel more sorry for Subo cos someone called her names and she can't sing fully in tune....

Sorry, I should have been clearer, I meant when she and Ashley did the cheesy hubby and wifey Lottery ad. I wasn't bothered whether she married him or not

I don't understand the Subo hype, tbh. Haven't done since her first audition. She's really not as good as she's been made out to be, and I'll always believe it's her story that propelled her to super stardom.

If you were a real Big Brother fan (and it is a BB forum after all) you wouldn't be having a dilemma you'd be having a dimella
