perhaps it's in his past and the person who comes looking for him spills the beans?  i can't remember how/why alex turned up in emmerdale to begin with - i know i'm clutching at straws but don't mind him leaving!

Wouldn't surprise me, when he came into the show they tried to make out to be a hard nut hadn't he been in prison or something?

I don't watch that often but Cameron uses the 'stare at the floor' method of acting.  Either that or he can never remember his lines and they're taped to the floor.
