Channel 5 has refused to comment on the backlash over the Big Brother 2014 Power Alliance twist, after Ashleigh Coyle was put up for eviction despite being promised immunity.
Having become the latest Power Housemate, Ashleigh was told on Monday that she would be exempt from this week’s public vote.
The Irish model’s safety was assured by voice interface Iris in the Control Room, who said: “I can now tell you that you are immune from this week’s eviction.”
After she joined forces with Chris and Mark to become the ‘Power Alliance’ – a team that would exclusively decide who would face eviction – Channel 5 then announced to the public that all members of the Alliance would be immune.
A press release issued by the broadcaster yesterday afternoon read: “All Housemates in the Alliance will be immune from eviction.”
Despite this, last night the Power Alliance twist came to an end with Ashleigh being put up for eviction. Big Brother fans responded furiously to the news, accusing show bosses of lying and misleading both the housemates and the public.
This afternoon, bbspy approached the broadcaster for a statement regarding the controversy.
However, the broadcaster declined the opportunity to explain the twist, instead answering simply: “No comment.”
Viewers were responsible for voting Ashleigh as the Power Housemate, in a free poll conducted on the official Big Brother iOS app at the weekend asking: “If Big Brother decided to return the power to the house, who would you like Big Brother to give the power to?”
The 18-year-old will now face the axe during Friday’s live show alongside fellow nominees Pav, Steven and Zoe.
