Cos in my day you only did them if your parents were rich …otherwise it was olevels and then a job .I went to uni when I was in my late 30s, and went on to do a BA and a PhD .

When my turn came around you couldn't really get anywhere much unless you had A levels/Highers, as a minimum!

And arithmetic and maths were two separate subjects
